I had noticed. But I was about to go to bed, so I didn't really have time to point it out. _________________

Holy shit, you're right! I can't believe no one noticed! ... in the two posts immediately above yours... talking about that very thing...

At first it was some gender binary thing, but now it's beginning to just make fun of people. Dial back on that.
A better idea would have been to have an actual person make fun of Fush. |
in this context (and in some others) it seems like it's reinforcing the negative thoughts a character has about themselves. so here, it's driving fuschia into accepting that she is bad, and she should just go back to being an unthinking devil girl. _________________ aka: neverscared! |

also i really hate it when people mention a change in the comic, because then i'm all "what? what did i miss?" and then i think what bastards you all are because you are in on it and i'm not and you all are just rubbing it in.

I didn't save it, but to the best of my recollection, it was exactly the same except 'Nique said "Not entirely," or something like that in the last panel instead of Fuchsia asking why.
Fuschia might have said something slightly different in the third panel so as to better lead into that, but I don't really remember.
YOU CAN TRY TO ERASE NIQUE SAYING SOMETHING IN THIS COMIC, TAT, BUT WE WILL REMEMBER FOREVER. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA actually I'll probably forget about it entirely. _________________ butts |

I'm pretty sure the 3rd panel was exactly the same. I think Fuchsia asked something like "Am I wrong?" with Nique responding the "Not entirely."
I think this more clearly gets his point across. _________________ Have a Nice Day |

The last panel was Fuchsia saying "Maybe that's just the way I am," with Nique responding with "Not entirely."
But close enough. _________________

I don't feel she was ever an unthinking Devil Girl. For quite some time now, Fuchsia's problem has IMHO been her inability to transcend a binary perspective: either this or that but never anything in between. She doesn't have to reject everything from her "old life" and she doesn't have to embrace everything that her "new life" tosses her way. She can be refreshingly herself. That's sort of what 'Nique's been trying to do lately, too.
Now that I think about it, Lady Liberty's been having a bit of a personal crisis lately as well. Maybe the three will start hanging around together.
As I've mentioned ad nauseum, the strip has implied that Devil People shouldn't automatically be presumed to work for The Devil. Here's hoping Fuchsia interacts with some "Civilian" Devil Girls before too long. |

First thing I thought of when I read this: "Fake it until you make it." In a sense, we truly are animals. We have animalistic needs, desires, and tempers. However, we are animals gifted with reason, consciousness, and awareness.
Have you ever known somebody who tried to turn over a new leaf, but it seemed like an act? It's not entirely our own perceptions. It is a change in attitude and making yourself WANT to desire to do the right thing. Doing something so contrary to your nature is always going to feel different until it becomes a part of what you are.
Changing who you are is not just a choice; it is a habit that you build.
At least, those are my two cents, anyway. |

Oh, and by the way. I had just realized this yesterday. It was a masterful stroke how gradual Monique's change was. She didn't suddenly take on her new persona; she felt guilt and wrong-doing about the things she had done before.
His name escapes me, but "The pig" had his change but it was only so long. His change came out of a necessity, not from a sincere desire to change, which is why he reverted back to who he is.
Deep comic is deep. |

Squigley, or just plain Squig.
There are times when I consider myself the love-child of Squig, and Dilbert's "Wally" character. Usually after a spicy meal [Antacid helps make the bad dreams go away] _________________

Huh, I think I prefer the first version, actually. I mean, yes, it does repeat a point that has been made many times before regarding the patriarchy, but it also opens the dialog for some follow-up wherein Fyoosh could begin learning something about what it means to have self-esteem and whence cometh self-worth--some lessons the dear girl really needs to have had pointed out to her a couple millenia back, it seems.
The second version is more succinct, and comes to a firm close in the four panels which, if Tat wishes to pursue the line of thought, can then be taken up anew in yet another four panels. I suppose this makes the second version better technique and story-telling, and I'd doff me topper to Tat, except that I'm not in the habit of wearing hats indoors.
Still, though, even if the first version is of poorer form for the medium, I adhere to my view that I like it more for the conventions it disregards and for the rules that it breaks, opening up possibilities and holding them out to the audience as tempting routes which may yet to be taken. _________________ I am only a somewhat arbitrary sequence of raised and lowered voltages to which your mind insists upon assigning meaning |

agreed, it's a lot better in my book
sinfest is almost invariably quite light on text (excluding the patrix text scroll), so i think tat shortened it for consistency. it's kind of a shame--as i've said before, this whole arc could probably benefit from a more text-heavy approach. gives the chance to explore motives, feminist concepts, and characters' mindsets in more detail, and this could have opened the door
oh well? |
