|
You know, I like to think that I am a feminist. Equal rights for women, watch out for the patriarchy, beware of sexism, I'm down with all that.
There are comics out there, such as Girls With Slingshots and even Doonesbury, that manage to deal with feminism without losing their sense of humor. I'll continue to read those. But at least for the moment I'm done with Sinfest.
Time was, Sinfest was one of those comics that dealt with feminist issues while still remaining entertaining. Ishida-san managed this by lampooning sexism through Monique and Slick. But he didn't do it all the time, in every strip. He found time to poke fun at other things. Over the last year or so Sinfest has stopped poking fun at much of anything. It has simply gotten preachy, and with a one-note sermon at that.
I'm not sure if Ishida-san is trying to atone for something, or simply working through his own issues, but I'll be back after he's finished with whatever he's trying to do here. |

This thread is officially of exceptionally high quality.
Also I'm pretty sure this is the 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000th post of "I support feminists, but __________, Tat should go back to the same old strip."
And I'm pretty sure no one gave a fuck about them either. _________________ Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country did to you |

Of course he's wrong. Tatsuya can do what he likes with his comic.
But I can't help feeling that if enough people complain about something, there is something wrong.
I know, we've had this discussion before. A lot of times. |

i honestly have to wonder how much of this is just sockpuppeting. i don't really remember all this constant complaining during the 2008 election, where the comics were even preachier and as subtle as brain surgery with a jackhammer. |

its a bit different, barrackstar was more "obama is fucking sweeeet" than anything else. the feminism arc has 1- derailed derailed several characters, messed with their development and turned them into one trick ponies and 2- has portrayed one entire gender as domination addicted brainwashed idiots who need the loving care and wise guidance of a trike riding cult to see the light. Not to mention, there were a lot fewer barrackstar strips. i think people would like the patriarchy a lot more if there was more variety and humor as well as if tat had fit the story arc around the characters instead of the characters around the story arc. _________________ Marriage begins with a man on his knees giving a woman jewelry and asking for permission to do something. do we not remember Sarah Piglin and the bailout comics?
besides which, well, how exactly have characters been derailed? Slick has always been a douchebag who's been out to get into 'Nique's pants, and although he's often tried to be better, it's hardly "derailment" if that's how he's being portrayed now--anymore than Squig's various failures to give up his assorted vices are "derailing." speaking of which, Squig has always been, well, a pig. 'Nique's been an antiestablishment partisan for a looooooong time and going androgynous is pretty much no different from when she was trying to unionize the Devil Girls and constantly protesting against Uncle Sam.
nor, really, has "one entire gender portrayed as domination addicted brainwashed idiots who need the loving care and wise guidance of a trike riding cult to see the light" been the case either, unless you want to say that Crim and Lil E and Storytime represent a mysterious parallel universe gender or something.
so maybe that's the problem. it's not that you're actually complaining about Sinfest, it's that you're complaining about the bizarro caricatured Sinfest narrative you invented in your head and projected onto the comic. |
