opinion is not the same as taste

for reals! you are acting as though in expressing an opinion, all you're expressing is "i think x." on some level, that is obviously true and can't really be proven wrong, but it is not the sense anyone uses when they actually talk to you. 'cuz you didn't just express "i think x." you also expressed "x." when you expressed "x," it turns out "x" is some statement about the world, which can be true or false depending on how the world is.

this is not the same as taste, because if you say something like "i think apples taste better than oranges," you are expressing something that can't actually be proven wrong, at least not normally. there is no objective world of forms to which we can appeal to decide if apples actually do taste better than oranges, nor can we actually prove that you're wrong and you actually think oranges taste better than apples. but if you say something like "i think the Holocaust never happened," there is an objective world to which we can appeal to decide whether the Holocaust happened and thus whether the opinion "the Holocaust never happened" is correct. this mystical realm of facts is commonly called "the world," and it says that the Holocaust did happen, so it looks like your opinion is objectively, provably wrong.

so if all you are expressing is that you have an opinion x, that is trivially true; but you are not just expressing that you have an opinion x, you are also expressing the opinion itself, x. and x can be true or false, which means your opinion sure as hell can be proven wrong.
