Perhaps the problem with this argument in general is that the people most willing to participate in it are the ones you would least like to.

Are you telling me everyone participated in government as a child after their grandparents gave them a book of "100 Political Appointments" that they would sit around and divy out with their siblings when the cable went out, but now everyone's been through every job in government so many times and they're all so banal and repetitive that when someone brings one up it feels like you're talking to a 7th grader?
