Looks like we know who will be rebuilding the Femobile. Maybe with a new look and some new features.

Would love to see the 'Points of interest' and 'recent destinations' screen on her GPS. Very Happy

More seriously, anyone have any interest in this story?:

I don't think anyone ever gave her a "fan name", though. I guess she could have been called "Magenta" or maybe Drilla (from Manila?) but now it's a moot point.

Well I had referred to her as Rosie frequently on tumblr, ... like... Rosie the Riveter? But that never really caught on, so whatevs.

I think I like Tess a lot better, anyways. It's a cute tomboyish name, perfect for a cute little tomboy like her.

Back to the strip, it strikes me as at least faintly interesting that Xanthe, who's about as tall as Slick, is the "boss" of Tess, who seems to be about as tall as 'Nique.

I don't know... I'm pretty sure Tess is the same height as Xanthe?

It's okay, friend. We all were. But in time, we will get used to Xanthe the same way. We will eventually forget that she was ever Glossy, but life will truly be golden.

yeah, the welder, clearly
The welder appears to be Xanthe before she got her ponytail cut.

I don't know about the Amazon thing. Xanthe means "yellow." It's a way of calling her "Yellowhair" without the connotations of calling her "Blondie." But as long as it's taken to get names for this bunch, maybe Tat's been arguing with himself about what to call them, and working out theme names somehow.

I'd forgotten the strips where the Sisterhood erected the Friend Zone signs. I mean, really, I forgot they existed.

Still, she's been one of a crowd of Sisterhood. Now I look at it, I see he's reusing the same five girls. Neat. But could you be more obscure (mysterious, subtle, close-lipped...), Tat? (No, that's not a challenge.)

Well, it also leaves the question for some of us to what the heck is she talking about? Smile

Fortunately, I figured it out:

Ah. I had forgotten that Rosalyn was Calvin's babysitter's name. That strip makes more sense now.

"Sister Rosalyn" sounds like a nun. Wait, are the Sisterhood nuns?

Tat is weird.

I think the far more pertinent question is:

Who is Matrix One?
"You are Number 6."
"I am not a number, I am a free --"

Yeah, like anybody's gonna get that...
I get that more easily than I remember the name of Calvin's babysitter. But I don't see "Matrix One" as a Prisoner reference.

Hmm.....Xanthe and Tess. I wonder is naming the members of the Sisterhood the first step in giving them more individualized personalities rather than the group identity they have now.

Am I only the one that prefers Xanthe to Glossy? Tess is also good.

PS. Surprised the Sisterhood password didn't spark another 8 page debate considering those are two fairly divisive topics among feminists.

I blanked those from memory, apparently. Not that long ago, either.

I know I've been less than enthusiastic about the last half-year of Sinfest and the adventures of unnamed junior nuns--or rather unnamed defenders of girlhood against socially constructed sexualization--look, the point is, they're unnamed. But man, those Friend Zone strips are really uninspiring, aren't they?

It's felt like Tat is writing "girl superheroes" as the fictional characters he wants his daughter to see, but if so there's a fair dollop of "protective dad" in those stories. Then again, his kid is probably middle-school age or younger, so fair enough.

Or his friends' kids. That makes sense too. Mysterious Tat.

(And yes, I know it's a fallacy to assume that fiction derives from the author's real life. Our rowdy frat Tat just grew up on us.)

Still, I'm glad they have names. I may remember more of them than "Trike Girl" and "Bike Girl" now.

Part of what's so strange about the Sisterhood's role in the strip is that they don't socialize with the other characters. (No, tormenting Seymour is not socializing.) They sort of scold them sometimes, but they barely speak in a lot of their strips. There's a kind of remoteness. So they're not as integrated into the old cast as the Devil Girls. What this implies I don't know.

They're alienating to (some) readers, and alienated from the rest of the cast. The guys regard them with suspicion, they don't intersect with Lily and the Gun Girl, and even 'Nique isn't shown hanging out with them.

They're a whole different bunch of friends, they just live in the same town, Tat wants to write about different characters sometimes, whatever. It's understandable. Tat's been doing this strip a long time.

The words you're looking for are aloof and draconian.

There are lots of high-class prostitutes that would disagree with you. They earn 200$ in an hour, they could find other jobs, they simply don't want to because they won't get half the incomes they get with their current job.

Some weeks I was watching a reality show where they talked about university students paying their studies working in prostitution. One of them said that she couldn't have paid her studies otherwise.

Well, I don't insist on it, but in Panel 1 her legs look longer than "short person legs" as Tat tends to draw them. Picture her standing up from that position.

Maybe it's just me, but it sounds more like you're referring to call girls than to prostitutes. I'm pretty sure there's a difference.

As for safety standards, a lot of the problems there are a result of it all having to be done under the table (*rimshot*). Girls who work at legal brothels in the US are FAR safer than those who don't, often because they impose mandatory screenings for STDs, besides providing a safe and controlled environment.

I HOPE SO!!! I have been wanting, since day one, for the girls to get more personal. To delve further into who they are as people, as characters, like Slicky and the gang. Interests... likes... dislikes... I mean, other than the obvious things.

Oh, believe me! I vastly prefer the name Xanthe to the name Glossy. And I'm the one who started the Glossy thing.

We've just spent quite a long time referring to her as Glossy, that it's somewhat of a habit. But I'm sure it won't take long to get used to Xanthe.

Tat is actually rather inconsistent with how he draws "short people legs" like there are numerous strips where Crim has rather long legs in comparison to how short he usually is. So, I don't know. I wouldn't exactly use that for reference as to how tall or short she is.

Draconian? No, that's not the word I would use, that sounds like they're putting people to death. "Aloof" is OK.

I re-edited my post above yours to try to explain what bugs me about them better. They're disconnected from the rest of the cast, one way or another.
