Perhaps because he posted this, on the aptly named "Slymepit" forums, on February the 9th. Funnily enough, I found it while trying various combinations of "sinfest", "feminism", and swearwords in Google. I guess we know what happens to people who get chased off the forums now... they go to Slymepit, whose byline is "Espousing The Radical Notion That Women Are People AND Adults".

On a totally unrelated note, what used to be my favourite webcomic, Sinfest, has now jumped the shark. For some reason, Tatsuya Ishida got totally enamored with feminist concepts like "The Patriarchy" and decided he would implement into the comic, which turned every character into a bland black and white caricature of their former selves. He also introduced various Mary Sue entities, conveniently called "The Sisterhood" and now that's all he does anymore. Everything is about "The Patriarchy", everything is a tool of "The Patriarchy", he even made a Matrix parody where "The Patriarchy" is the Matrix and "The Sisterhood" is designed to set others free. It's total bullshit, from beginning to end. The forum, too, has become riddled with a fainting couch brigade that wouldn't be out of place in the A+ forum.

That's funny. We, the fainting couch brigade, didn't just appear... most of us have been here for years. Many of us far, far longer than Guest.* Buuut I guess when you're talking to other forums no one's going to call you out on revising history. Wink

* and by all of this I mean that I registered in Feb of 2001, and he registered in Sept of 2002... what a newb!

Funny, dudebros who've only started posting here to complain about the feminism strips make a whole dramafest, "sinfest has changed" goodbye post when they leave after 2 weeks and expect us to care. Guest, who has been here for over a decade leaves quietly (unless I missed something).

I love how the characters changing and getting thus another level of development on top of the old ones is "black and white" to them. Change negates their past and things that built to what they are and all that. Ha ha.

And that definitely seems to be him...Same avatar even.

I guess I must be a part of the fainting couch brigade since I only joined the forums last Summer after reading some of the trash people were posting that I had the perfect responses to, but didn't have an account. So I folded...and here I still am.

hahaha oh my god, I went over to that forum to browse around. Now I see where all the dudebros came here from!

Guest whines there, intellectual midgets from that site come here to see what he's blathering about and act like they've got more of a chance at showing the "fainting couch brigade" the light.

Being called the "fainting couch brigade" is really fascinating to me, especially when you actually look into WHY fainting couches existed in the first place.

They were most often put at the top of stairs. As it turns out carrying around yards and yards of fabric (that fashion dictated women wore, not men) and then squeezing out the majority of your lung capacity (again, corsets were not for men, usually, I'm sure you could find some fops that wore something similar-ish but they were not the norm) makes it really hard to do very basic things like walk around or especially walk up a lot of stairs. It made women look so weak, because they were literally passing out while their male counterparts had no problems at all.

Women of the past weren't actually that weak, they were just forced into a position to look that way by fashion norms.

I just find it interesting, because as insults go it's so easy to turn on it's head and make a perfect example of how insidious social constructs can be. I'm sure at the time fainting couches were a thing nobody thought to question -why- it was only women that fainted. They just saw that women were fainting and assumed it was because they were women, ignoring the social constructs that were the real culprits.

I didn't know about fainting couches. The more you know...

As for corsets and the like, I think they are instruments of torture. Especially after I saw the guinnes world record holedr fo the tiniest waist Cathie Jung. Shocked

Don't feel bad or nothing, Dogen's talking about the old forum on keenspot. For reference, no one really had an issue with Guest until recently, like last year or so, when he basically went around defending reddit as a haven for child porn.

I am vastly amused by the implication that the Sinfest loyalists require "fainting couches." Meanwhile, in reality, the dudebros are freaking out.

well, i require a fainting couch.

smacking people upside the head with a folding metal chair might have old school charm to it, but you can do a lot of damage with a fainting couch. it's rad.

I think I'm going to name my SWToR pub guild on bergeron colony The Fainting Couch Brigade

like i will hereupon from this moment faint at least once in every thread about a comic making fun of various patriarchal moduses

i will then throw a hissyfit because i think that feminism isn't paying enough attention to my concerns. then i will call them feminazis, and people will get mad at me about that over the internet and m

..

wait, i'm doing it wrong

I'm going to float Fainting Couch Brigade as the name of my pub trivia team next week. We'll sit next to the team that uses A Gentleman Doesn't Pull Out and wilt all over them.
