Is that a leather tie?

Also, I really, really, really enjoyed Django.

Supremely impressed by how humble, gracious, and generally non-creepy Quentin Tarantino was tonight.

I should probably see that movie.

Yeah, no.

In related news, I just watched LaVar Burton tell someone to unfollow him for saying Django is like Roots revisited.

I laughed.

A lot.

Well, not only do I avoid anything Tarantino touches like the plague (I really despise his style), every time I've seen a person of color talk about it, they're reactions are anywhere between miffed to full on offended.

Like LaVar Burton, for example. He doesn't actually say it's bad, now that I read it again. Still gunna pass, personally.

Seth McFarlan has a beautiful voice but he has never had to project in his life.

I miss one tiny, tiny bit of living in Arkansas: actual interaction with multiple races. Springfield is SO. DAMN. WHITE.

Dude you wanna talk about white. I need to get out of this state so bad. I get nervous talking about ANYTHING to do with race because I know I'm an ignorant clod. I try not to be by listening to people like LaVar but my upbringing is about as white as it gets.

That's not true! You've got Carl, and Dr. Hibbert, and Apu, and... that guy in the bee costume... um...

Very interesting.... I am very uncomfortable with a lot of what Tarantino deals with, and the manner in which he does it - but I saw some attempts at social merit in Inglorious Basterds. It makes me hopeful.

What I did like about Django and the concept: they used the word nigger. It showed the terrible punishments that happened. If anything, things were more brutal but one would be hard pressed to come up with more terribleness without doing historical research. That... might make me a terrible person but I think that is a good thing.
