I'm a firm subscriber to that decade old slogan.
"Fish are friends, not food."

Wheels: I'll have to see if the local place has any Duckweed. We had plants but the fish kept eating them and the plants could not keep up. It is worth a try, anyway.

Keeping up the tank is supposed to be Graeme's job. He was given the tank (with the snail) by a co-worker who was moving back to the lower 48 and Rhett wanted a pet so badly that I was fine with it as long as he did the upkeep of the tank. I knew that fish tanks take a bunch of maintenance as my brother used to have a big one when he was a teen. But I also have a thing about molds and anything that looks too much like mold (and the like). It is not a rational thing; I am sure it is a branch off of the huge germ thing I used to have when I was younger(still have, just not huge, as I keep it pretty controlled now). Anyway, the though of my sticking my hands in there, even with gloves, I am not sure I could do it. (God, it sounds so stupid to say/type it but that doesn't change it unfortunately )

Anyway, I will look into that plant and the moss one and see what is available up here. Thank you! Smile

They do make magnetic algae scrapers. The scraper part goes on the inside of the glass and the part you move goes on the outside. If you really NEED to you can get one for each wall of the tank. Also, the cheapest algae scrapers are really just rough foam blocks at the end of a stick that scrub it off the glass.

Dogs, cats, sloths, sugar gliders, even a wombat. This thread is not ethnically diverse enough! This thread needs a Snowboarding Russian Crow!

Thanks, Dogen; you made me go look up a bunch of Jeb Corliss' jumps. I'm going to be having flying dream, tonight!

I present what might possibly be the cutest real animal that you can never own as a pet, a pika. ALL attempts at captivity have failed:

I used to have goldfish. They lived for... six years, I think. It's been a while. Anyway, I got an apple snail one year and they actually managed to knock it off of the glass on the tank and turn it into a soccer ball. They did this until the poor thing died of stress.

Goldfish are dicks, man. Cute as hell, though. Very Happy
