Mmm, after some digging, it doesn't appear Tat has had a comic on april 1st with an april fools theme.
Which means I'm totally free to CACKLE MANIACALLY because this confirms what I was trying to say during the toaster argument.

I find the amount of sex and violence and gore in today's strip to be shocking. Shocking!
And the message of it... Deplorable!
Tat has truly hit bottom in this disgusting attempt to rossel the jordans of the Sinfest community. I don't know how he thinks this kind of content is appropriate on a website without age restrictions! Consider this my final posting as I am not only dropping this but calling the cops as well.
See yall tomorrow. _________________ "Cada uno es como Dios le hizo, y aún peor muchas veces."

人造 (pronounced "jinzou") is translated as "artificial".
人間 (pronounced "ningen") means "human being".
About as straightforward a phrase as you can get for "android", though then, of course, we have the classic issue of artificial human beings and "artificial" feelings. |

Pfft. Your feelings are just the collective action of neurotransmitters stimulating and inhibiting neuronal firing, not unlike the movement of a signal through a microprocessor. _________________ "Worse comes to worst, my people come first, but my tribe lives on every country on earth. I'm not butt-hurt, I just still think trying to show a feminist Ideal with a robot that was Magically given sentience is kinda dumb writing.
I don't feel like a robot is a good way to show these issues. Mostly because robots and humans aren't interchangeable. "But she's an android?" Until he shows me the biological parts this thing possess, its not an android. But he won't because that't too dark for this kind of comic, unless your talking about atrocities that happened to women then that's still on the table.
Picture this, I create a comic where there are robots that do the menial tasks for businesses, they harvest, work the machines and basically run everything for no pay while the people who own them make all the profits. They get repaired when they break down, unless its too sever and then they get destroyed. One day, one of them gains sentience from getting hit by lightning) and he learns about slavery in America. The robot then says that he understands everything that happened to the blacks and slavery, and must get revenge for the slave races.
To me, that's fucking insulting, to say that something that a machine was the same as you. And that's what I am seeing with this character.
Of course this will be thrown back into my face because of my poor writing ability. Or dismissed entirely cause it's just me. But I've grown to expect it and welcome it. _________________ The Angry Asshat. |

Thank you, John Searle.
May I suggest, then, that you do some reading on the Problem of Other Minds and Philosophical Zombies? And don't stop at the Wikipedia articles; check the suggested references and further reading, as well. Daniel Dennett, in particular, is a very thought-provoking author in this field, as is David Chalmers.
Don't worry; the suggested reading probably won't change what you think about the plausibility of a thinking machine. But it should give you an appreciation for what very deep questions Tat is touching upon with the Fembot, outside of the feminist issues. _________________ I am only a somewhat arbitrary sequence of raised and lowered voltages to which your mind insists upon assigning meaning |

Oh I'm fully aware and like the thought of robots that gain sentience and fighting for their rights. I'm a big fan of the Geth from Mass Effect, their fight and story were awesome. Frankenstein's monster is another sympathetic character. Kara too, loved that mini movie.
I just find this character flat, and that her motivation for fighting was forced upon her, not because she observed this behavior firsthand and came to this conclusion. If she did remember the control Slick had over her, fighting against controlling behavior of men could have been a good issue, but instead she witnessed what the Sisterhood wanted shown...
But that could be expected. She was basically a child... "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." _________________ The Angry Asshat. |
