I don't think anyone was talking about nice clothes? Cute clothes. Homemade clothes. Cheap versus quality fabric. That's what they are even talking about.

Eh, a plain black tee and some black cargo pants are enough for me.

True fashion is unkempt facial hair, a trench coat, and a fedora.

I'm pretty sure no one here has any sort of interest in your banana hammock raising activities or advice on how to raise one Wink

Praise for good behavior is important, but so is making sure you evoke guilt rather than shame in response to their bad behavior.

Of course, I recommend against tough love during the critical development stages. Don't abuse your authority. Simply listening to their feelings can prevent undue conflict from arising in the first place.

Another important thing is to be sure to give them easier access to books than to other forms of media consumption, except maybe varied music and art so their auditory processing develops well, and talk to them a lot when they're young.

I'm seeing a lot more crafting books geared towards refashioning already made clothes rather than making clothes from scratch. Used to irritate me until I realized it actually is cheaper in some cases.

And Samsally, if you ever do get to visit up here, I totally want to take you to this place called Ragfinery. It probably won't be practical since you'll be traveling - but they have old clothes and fabric by the pound. It is amazing. And I think I mentioned it once before. But - amazing!

we have (still!) this great institution called the U.S. Postal Service. which has this great thing with standard-sized boxes that ship at a fixed rate. which means that you can ship stuff you buy on vacation home to yourself at a pretty decent price, rather than hoicking it all around with you.

(it only took me years to come to this realization - i give it to you free of charge!)

(which means that if i ever end up in your area, i want you to take me to ragfinery too.)

Some people use it to send extra things for an extended stay, rather than pay extra on luggage while boarding a flight.

And yes, if you ever come here, I'll take you down to Ragfinery. I can also maybe convince Tod to make a button that says something to commemorate your visit.

Back on topic!

This video cogently overviews the current state of psychology, with a focus on gender

OMG OMG!

The HHS finally made their anouncement, and yes, they have struck down the ban on gender confirmation surgeries!

http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2014/05/30/3441305/medicare-transgender-health/

I am so delighted - but I have not yet found out if this means that it will be automatically covered by medicare providers, and I'm confused because articles I had previously seen on this were talking about medicaid.

Regardless, this is great news!

Edit: Okay, it doesn't extend to Medicaid, which is fail. But there is hope that Medicaid will just follow what Medicare is doing.
