Well, while I wouldn't call it "misandry," he is correct that what she said was just plain rude. Really, who walks past someone and says "ew?" Ruuuude.

I'm with the pig on this... He was reading/looking at something, plus for all he knows she could be judging him by the fact he's a pig. Also the fact she keeps collecting tears is one of the biggest reasons I dislike the whole sisterhood thing. When you start collecting tears you automatically go into the villain column for me

Well, the thing here is like what I said in my first post: this isn't misandry. She just finds him unattractive. Now, again, there is no reason for her to broadcast that when he's minding his own business, but it's not misandry.

Misandry is telling men that they have to be masculine in whatever way, like how misogyny is forcing women to be feminine in whatever way. Misandry is telling a man that he can't like pink, or that he has to love sports, or that he needs to be straight, etc. Misandry is big and everywhere in society. Misandry is not the opinion of one passerby.

All of that said, this is an interesting case of street harassment. Typically, a man feels the need to let a woman know that he finds her attractive when she hasn't asked him (the issue being that her body is not his to comment on). This is similar, in that Squig's body is not something for Glasses-Lady to comment on, but it's not wide-spread enough to be considered misandry, even though the gender-flipped version is wide-spread enough to be considered misogyny.

Did any of that make sense? She is being a jerk, but it has to be on a large scale to actually be a case of society-enforced sexism.

Well, can't he benefiting from the suffering of others is wrong, but I think I can give her an exception because she is not using it for personal gain so much as advancing humanity. Also, imma fan of xanthe so she gets leeway.

IMO, nothing wrong with not finding a given man or woman physically beautiful. Saying it is a dick move, but again, he's reading porn, so she might well react to that.

That actually is a good point. Maybe she wasn't saying "ew" to his appearance, but to his behavior.

I think the first two panels point to the observation being the former, but the porn could have been the thing that pushed her to say it out loud, possibly?

If I walked by a dude lecherously reading porn in the middle of a park, I'd say eww too. (It was a bit rude to say where he can hear though. I'm not gonna deny it.)

In the book version of "Hannibal", the child-molester Mason Verger runs an orphanage. Paralysed and unable to molest children, he settles for verbally abusing them. Then he collects their tears, and drinks them.

I'm sorry, but the concept of collecting tears is now, for me, linked to child abuse. The chances of me feeling empathy for someone who practices this act are slim to none.

I think what he(? I don't actually know that person's gender, sorry) meant was that it's a funny place to draw the line. Like, "You can murder puppies and it's okay, BUT COLLECTING TEARS IS UNFORGIVEABLE."

Like, how many people collect tears? Razz

Cyric the Mad did, but only those of broken hearted gods whose relationships he had destroyed.

Edit: yeah, I feel squig earned that one.

THIS. Why is this even an argument? It's gross because he's reading porn in public. "Ew" is entirely acceptable here.

I think we all agree that she has every right to think he's "ew," but that saying it out loud where he can hear her is rude.
