but you don't need the entire blockchain in order to trade bitcoins with a light client!
and storage is getting bigger, faster, and cheaper!
and if the blockchain still gets too unwieldy it can be pruned!

depending on how bitcoin dies, it doesn't necessarily mean the end of cryptocurrencies in general

I'm seeing a pattern here.

Sam says bitcoin is dumb, then Thy makes more money off bitcoin.

Cold hard cash by the way sam, your favorite currency.

Recent events drove the price up you know, something about supply and demand in effect.

Talk about sour grapes.

Sorry, Thy, I'm sticking with pieces of paper. They never get stolen or anything.

Ha.
Right.

I recently lost two such pieces of paper! And not the minor papers. The number printed on each was 100. Theft may or may not have played a part.

Is the megox theft larger or smaller than the pirateat40 theft? My guess is larger in total bitcoins but I can't remember how many were hoisted before.

Are you saying that Sam has the ability to control your making money of bitcoin?

It's almost as if his non participation is literally benefiting me.

I don't think you're using the word "literally" correctly. Also I can't tell if you're joking or not. If it were anyone else I'd say yes, it's a bit of wry humour, but based on past experience you could in fact have convinced yourself that one person not doing something affected an entire currency system for your benefit.

Wait, you mean they used the O'Reilly method of rolling out server updates?

most techy books are published by the completely unrelated O'Reilly Media, so Bill O'Reilly is the last thing on my mind when I first read a post talking about O'Reilly and server updates

wired picked it up

http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2014/03/bitcoin-exchange/

highlights include: no source control. no test environment until they were getting spanked by professional code and business practices reviews. every code change had to go through karpeles, who was often checked out of the process.

hackers had been skimming bitcoin off of them for a very long time.

expected true believer response: this is only GOOD news for bitcoin! UP UP UP
