"Why are you enjoying the ideas of things I don't like"

I hope Sam had a save state at that point. If there's one reason why her tantrum is valid, is because the game is not local multiplayer. Rolling Eyes

As someone who has played a few GTA games and yet isn't out shooting random people with rocket launchers and grabbing them out of their cars, I actually do find this strip preposterous.
If they believe this is what's causing the world's population to be attuned to committing violence against others, then they're dead wrong - in that case, they should censor the media, the news, and while they're there also the shows showing off size-0 modelling and basically everything that involves rape, murder, death, sex and violence - but maybe that's called "thought control", because it technically is.

It's always disrespect towards others and a lack of empathy that enables people to commit violence against others, and they're not going to teach how to improve on that by yanking out the power cord whenever something "bad" comes up. Maybe families should be teaching their children how to be nice and empathetic, instead of yelling at them for each of their mistakes, and letting them grow up and learn socialization skills based on TV shows and video games.

I don't like Liberty's action in this case. I really don't. Ruining someone's activity like that is just plain disrespect and inconsideration as well. As I said, "Why are you enjoying things I don't like", 'I don't allow that because I don't approve of it'.
She's always about control control control. She's not lying like Sam, but DAMN is she controlling. She seems to have issues with everything.

Speaking of which, it's somewhat odd that she is "Liberty", and yet to achieve her ways, all she does is take control and enforce limitation.
Isn't this a paradox?

You're surprised Liberty is reacting negatively to someone enjoying a video game avatar taking away other people's liberties? She's empathizing with the wronged down-trodden people suffering. That's what she's supposed to do isn't it?

Yes, and if it weren't a game, she'd have a point. In this case however, I can't side with her in any way, because she's just throwing a tantrum over something stupid, and ruining Sam's progress for no valid reason. And even for the tantrum, it would be okay, if it weren't for the method.

I don't like saying this, but she's being a total b*tch at this point.

I have no problem with the condemnation of imperialism.

I don't see the point of involving the GTA franchise through parody: GTA is already parodic, it's a satire, a farce. Grand Theft Nation is not: it seems to be a very serious game... Like, say, Call of Duty. Which is a nationalist game.

The metaphor... It went so over your head it's incredible.

But besides that, Liberty's clearly concerned about Sam. She sees that for him it's not only a game. It's a fantasy. He wants to be the avatar, as hinted in panel 5.

BTW just now did I notice, why does Sam have shades? The original didn't have them

"Control"???

...by unplugging the game and walking away in a huff?

Pretty obvious to me he can turn the thing right back on again.

He can play at all the torture and war that he wants. It's just that Liberty will have nothing to do with it.

I'm surprised some of the dudebros around here are so dense they can't figure that out.

Also, Liberty's a kid. Kids want immediate solutions. Plugging off the thing was the most immediate solution available.

Well, violence in videogames has always been a persistent question. However, I can clearly see that "video game" here is the same thing as "porn" in the previous strip, which is a bit surprising to mash together.

But, it's not the game's fault that Sam "wants to be that avatar". There is no one else to blame but him. With a past like this, I'm surprised Liberty ended up with him.
