<3 <3 <3
I was so so so so thrilled with Elementary and then there was the episode full of fat jokes, but all in all, they get an A for diversity/gender stuff.

Haha, yes. I will always love The Princess Bride. No bricks through the window revoking my feminist card yet, though.

i'm starting to dislike the word "problematic." it implies that there's some sort of equivalence between "oh, i was eating nachos but i ran out of cheese before i ran out of chips" and "oh, look at this screaming misogynist claiming that the wage gap is a myth and women are sexless devil harpies who will seduce and ruin men for the evulz"

(bonus points if you can somehow blame your distorted chip-to-cheese ratio on the evil feminist conspiracy to steal your penis and make you listen to nothing but Yanni)

That doesn't sound problematic. That sounds DELICIOUS!

This is what happens to me when consuming any type of media.

I agree it would be better to have a stronger word, though I like the function 'problematic' fulfills. Kind of how 'uncomfortable' is shorthand for 'I am in intense pain and fear or my mortal safety, and you are sawing through old wounds again.'

Anyhow, this comic strip disappoints me a bit, because of how similar it is to another strip. I'm not even sure why she's crying now.

What's the punchline in today's strip?

The punchline is that she sees it has a bunch of isms in it, but she's goingto watch it anyway.

I assume she's crying over relationship stuff in the show, because that's all I remember her being hown wtching.

Well, 'Nique can't perfect and absolutely just all the time... and I suppose this might make me a bit of a bad person, but that makes me glad.
Imperfection is human, and human is likeable.

You can't love people warts and all if they don't have any warts.

It's very hard to find something that isn't 100% problematic free. I always like it when entertainment tries though.

Wow.

I mean.

I don't have words right now.

I mean other than "YUP" and "Wow that was well timed."

And also, "Thank you, Tatsuya."

Am I the only one that read that comic strip and went 'Yup, Tat is making a play off the comments from yesterday's strip'.

I almost bust a gut laughing when I read today's comic and it had nothing to do with the actual content of the comic itself, but the links between the comic and comments in the thread about the previous strip.

Problematic just means, "This has problems." right? Like anyone or anything can be problematic, I suppose you could also say it has issues but sometimes that seems a judgemental instead of objective statement.

With someone saying, "I hate maths, it's so gay." If you say, "What you're saying has issues." instead of, "What you're saying is problematic." the two really have different meanings. Like with a tv show you can say, "This show has issues." or "This show is problematic.".

Like Game of Thrones is an AMAZING show which seems to stick to one main female body type (even with the fighting females), has somewhat limited POC roles, with the Mother of Dragons seems to have a slight white saviour tinge (no matter how much I love Khaleesi), seems to have a slight preoccupation with tits and though I find the use of ableist and homophobic language appropriate, I'm sure others don't.

I don't expect there to be any mention of peasants generally tho, so just glazing over that aspect. No-one cares what the commoners are up to most of the time, when it's supposed to be about kings, queens, princes, princesses and bastards. (you know nothing Jon Snow)

So yeah, Game of Thrones is IMMENSELY problematic, but it's a GREAT SHOW compared so much that is out there.

Like how Moffat should just stop writing and hand Doctor Who and Sherlock over to people who respect women.
