Well, not to sound like I have the slightest idea of what I'm talking about (I admit upfront that I don't), but:
(1) the number of women in the military has also increased, meaning, to put it bluntly, that sexual violators in the military now have a larger number of potential victims (if x =y% of z number of women remains constant and z increases, so does x)
(2) unless I'm mistaken (as I may well be), crimes of that kind, too, are now being reported more often than was previously the case
I'm not saying that there hasn't been an overall increase, but influences on the statistics need to be considered. IMHO. |
Those things very well could be. I don't have any good links. I've heard horror stories about the way things used to be, so I can see that. Horrifying in any case. _________________ ::lesser crisis mode::

He's wrong though. He's not irrelevant; he's the villain.
Or, rather, villainous. Not, at the core, a bad guy. But still entirely in the wrong, and should be stopped. And shown being stopped, too. So he has a place in this story, and is therefore, relevant.
Of course, Tat could be talking about the ideals he holds in relation to our society, in which case, yeah, that shit is entirely irrelevant.
But, I'm intoxicated, so I may be overthinking it. And this might not be entirely coherent, either.
Oh well, 'submit'... |

As a different focus:
http://www.sinfest.net/archive_page.php?comicID=3167
"I have...no status in society"? "I'm just an animal"? I'm wondering how seriously Tat wants us to take statements like that from Squig. Geez, that's a worse deal than Devil People get.
Squig directly states that porn outright "makes him feel better" and it sounds like he needs all the help he can get on that. Nobody's offering him any alternate methods of making himself feel better, though. He's not trying to demean women, he's trying to un-demean himself.
The truly odd part (well, one of them, anyway) is that Squig's concept of porn seems to mostly consist of looking at scantily clad Devil Girls, and he can do that in the strip's real world pretty much whenever he wants. Fuchsia and Blue used to walk around like that every frickin' day and there are probably more Devil Girls who still do that.
Of course, as I've mentioned ad nauseum (sure, I'm repetitive, but at least I acknowledge it, I acknowledge it, at least), it now turns out that the Devil Girls whom Squig looks at on his computer --
http://www.sinfest.net/archive_page.php?comicID=4268
-- the ones who kiss and cuddle him without even being asked, are, like, a bus ride away from his house. Seems like that would render porn itself kind of redundant...especially considering that the scenario seen in the above strip appears to have been a one-time deal for him. Why isn't he out trying to meet (random name selection) Goldie and 'Jenta in the real world? They liked him free of charge before, why wouldn't they feel that way now? |

Before you can be stopped, you have to actually do something, and Slick hasn't put in much of a performance in that area lately. It's Devil Slick who's the miscreant, and Slick doesn't even seem to know that he exists yet. |

Well, sure, but in this comic's world, that also leads to being locked in a torture room with the executioner. I'm all for free sexy times, but for some heavens and paradises, the price is simply too steep.
Also, I'm guessing that comic is just Squig seeing the very worst that porn has to offer, and being just as disgusted by it as he should be. So, he remembers her words, pulls himself out of the browser by a convenient little 'X' and ponders for a while.
Then again, I love overthinking this strip, and probably am now. Everything feels like a clearly labelled political cartoon, but one that is actually occasionally amusing. |

I'm not entirely convinced that they're to be taken as different people. But, I suppose that's my personal interpretation. We'll see what's up eventually, I hope. |
