Yes, I've checked Wikipedia before on this subject. No, I'm still somewhat confused about it.

What exactly is transgender? Summarized, Wikipedia said it's that someone doesn't feel like they fit in with their "gender role", and are thus not "cisgender".
The reason why I'm confused is because I think whether you have a male body or a female body is honestly quite obvious based on your type of genitalia (unless you have a medical condition in which you are both or neither of the biological sexes), and if your body is a given, then there's no question about any of this.
After that, it's whether you agree to the "gender roles" society wants to shoehorn onto you or not - and I think it's a simpler question than that you'd need to make a flag for it. It's a "YES" or "NO" question. Do I agree with this, or do I find it obnoxiously dumbfounded, nonsensical and realize that none of it makes any sort of sense, and is just a stupid tradition from centuries ago?

I disapprove of the concept of gender roles in general, and I reject the parts of the male gender role that I do not like. However, I don't consider myself a "transgendered" person, because I think the very concept of whether you are "more in line with male gender roles or female gender roles" is a thought construct that has no meaning. I am who I am, gender does not define me.

And thus, I don't get transgenderism. Can anyone elaborate on what this is about?

It's not just about gender roles, it's about bodies.

Uh, it's not just about bodies either. Look up social dysphoria too.

I posted that in another thread, did you steal it off me? Haha. Anyway, you can see that it's not just about bodies from that. Gender and sex are separate. I would say related, but you don't have to want, say, a vagina to be a woman.

Anyway look at all the links I have:

I can relate to the term above as I pretty much gave up on ever becoming female when puberty hit and it was obvious that even if I were to change genders, I would still look too much like a male transvestite...

...if only I looked more naturally androgynous or even feminine, my life would be pretty different.

Uh, that's not really what it's referring to. It's referring to people who have taken hormones/had the surgeries and now no longer consider themselves trans, just as a normal woman/man with a medical condition that was fixed.

And I think there's too much emphasis on "passing". If being a woman would make you happier, and that's what you want to do, then it doesn't matter what other people think. You could always start off with small things to make yourself more comfortable, like some electro, growing your hair out, etc. Even if you don't go "all the way" (stupid term) why not make yourself more comfortable in your own body?

I am so tired of people who say, "I don't agree with gender roles" and then go on to say they don't get or don't like transness.

If you don't like gender roles, then don't go on about how trans people are doing it wrong. Go off on everyone who isn't trans.

She'll provide you with some history and a POC trans women point of view. Plus she does a 'shut up fool' award for politicians and celebrities.

I wish people would stop making threads for this stuff in the comic subforum when there are already perfectly good and active and well-established threads in the general subforum.

but while we're dropping links, I'm a fan of Zinnia Jones
she makes some pretty good posts about trans* issues
