Yeah, but my point was asking Tat to offer solutions is, again, asking a lot of a comic strip artist. He doesn't have to have solutions just because he sees there's a problem.

Just a thought - maybe we can ask a lot about this comic strip artist because he has a whole thriving community of some meatheads, some fairly predictable trolls, some very unpredictable and quite impressive trolls, and a significant quantity of intelligent, capricious individuals capable of coming up with very decent arguments to back up their ideas.

No one asked Bill Watterson to save society, but he didn't have as much of a think tank as Tat does.

Well, I know which one I -want- to be... heh.

But yeah, I'm with Dogen on this one. Just cuz we're here doesn't mean we have -that- much of a say in the comic. We still don't have a clue how much he actually reads this forum.

And anyway, it seems like most of the intelligent, capricious individuals I've seen take up arms are still on the "convincing the doubtful there really is a problem" front. I mean, sometimes we get to batting around solutions but that's mostly buried in the 'feminism because why not' thread, in between.... you guessed it, convincing the doubtful there really is a problem.

Like, I'm not sure when we can start taking some serious steps towards figuring out solutions when there are so many people still unconvinced of the problems.

I think asking the people who constantly and consistently whine on the forums about the feminist themes to go somewhere else rather than annoying us all with the constant stream of mental diarrhea that dribbles out the bottom of their skull isn't really all that much to ask either.

YET Y'ALL ARE STILL HERE.

I think this happens because they suspect they might be wrong and want to use places like this forum to decide whether or not they're willing to grow up.

They irritate the rest of us in the process, but maybe there's a couple people who stop being assholes as a result.

This was a really good little guide. One of the great things about it is that anyone who is actually a fair-minded person should be able to agree with all of those things on general principles. So then you have people who are fair-minded people suddenly realizing "huh -- shit, I actually DON'T do this. why don't I do this?" And then maybe the process of becoming an ally starts.

Is it just me, or the Girldroid didn't have too much purpose up to until now?

I wonder if there'll be anything more complex to her stealing power and being angry...

I don't think so. However, I believe she'll act as a foil to Lil E's friend (whatever her name was, the super happy devil girl), and start a new conflict which shall eclipse even the spectacular Seymour vs. Lil E battles!
... or at the very least, I hope that's what will happen!

1) We don't know that explicitly, but boy does it put a whole new squicky spin on the nature of fembot ownership, hmm?

Well, come on, let's get real, what else would be the first way that humanity (or Devilkind) applied that kind of technology? Supposedly, pornography is what kept the VCR industry in business long enough for it to develop into what it became which in turn developed into DVDs which in turn, well, I'm sure somebody else can get into that far more knowledgeably than I can. And what's probably the #1 "service" for which the internet is used (it's definitely #1 in this strip). Simple enough to extrapolate from that.

I hardly think that The Devil markets Fembots as the ideal companions with whom to cuddle on benches...

Well, how many characters in the strip do have "purpose"? Heck, how many people in LIFE have "purpose"? Wink

OK, the sky is falling. Got it. Now what can we do about it? Or is this just going to be a constant whine fest about how unfair everything is for women? Can you please stop making the point and try to come up with some solutions through your characters that are more productive than impotent rage and finger pointing? We GET IT already! Or is it that you have no solutions and just enjoy the complaining and have a handy medium to vent?

And what about men who want things to be fair? How can we best go about it? Also, how much of this inequality (perceived or otherwise) a result of biology and nature? Worse, how much is enabled by the behavior of some women themselves? The door swings both ways here and this is turning into a straw man fest. I am immediately suspicious of conspiracy theories and perhaps I'm witnessing one here...?

You want a lot from a comic strip artist. No one ever expected Bill Watterson to solve one of the fundamental problems facing society.

But the second half of your post makes me think you don't really want a solution so much as you want to complain and point out that guys also have problems. Thank God you did, too, because no one ever thinks about the men around here.*

* Except for the other 1,000,000 men who registered just to make posts complaining about the patriarchy arc and to remind us that men are also victims of inequality... even if that's a myopic point of view borne of privilege. Thanks for being guy #1,000,001.

i'm with dogen - seriously, do you expect to get all the answers to how to fix the world from a comic? garry trudeau has been commenting on national and international politics for decades now - do you really expect him to be the one to formulate a plan to end gridlock in congress, restore the economy and establish a lasting peace in iraq/afghanistan/syria/etc.? how about all the political cartoonists? they keep riling us up by making comics that upset people - when did any of them actually offer a solution? do you read cathy for relationship advice? peanuts for tips on playing football?

tat is doing something by making you aware that the problem exists (or at any rate, trying to make you aware), and making you mad enough, or curious enough, or something enough, to go and do something about it. but what you do is up to you.
