Yeeeeaaahhhh.... there were so many things that could be said in reply to that big ole bundle of tripe, but Miss Magenta pretty much summed it up.

What a pair they make, seeing as Lily's Dad ditched him for choosing the doll instead of the weapon.

Apparently he has left the building [tl;dr] Rolling Eyes

Pebbles was on her way to see the Devil booth and was going to apply for Devil girl pirate school and ran into Big D right in front of 'Nique and Slick

While the Devils intention was for Devil Girl Pebbles to to teach his wayward son Lily how to BOMF ( through a series of misadventure tha t would culminate in In Stately Devil Manor...)

Very Happy

Come on Arthain, you're gonna make me watch someone posting the strip in which Monique tells her audience they are free to leave for the milionth time? Seriously?

Anyway, as far as today's comic goes, this is child abuse. Not as severe as in cases of molestation or consistent physical beating up, but stil abuse to a level.

WHAT IN THE HELL???

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Plus, maybe she just wanted her daughter to play inside and not get scuffed up. C'mon, it was one day out of proto-Pebbles' life and out of her mom's life.

So, who if anyone is her doll supposed to most resemble?

The mom took the sword away and replaced it with a doll, and the overalls were replaced by a dress. That is not just, "Play inside and stay clean!" anymore than taking a doll and skirt away from a boy to replace it with a sword and overalls would be about healthy exercise for a boy.

And you could say the same about D-man by that logic. We have only seen a few days in Li'l E's childhood. Maybe D-man was great most of the time! Maybe! Because it isn't explocitly stated otherwise, we should totes onsider tat D-man was probably the greatest dad ever when off camera. Tat's just being unfair.

There's a difference between being a Mom and being The frickin' Devil.

Prove it.

Oh, wait.

You can't. Wink

Well, the BOMF itself left her growling in unfocused hostility. It took, of all people, Seymour to snap her out of that for more than a few minutes.

Well, at least to the point that her hostility was focused. Nobody's saying it wasn't a process.

Which proceeded tg her evidently entirely forgotten first encounter with Li'l E:

http://www.sinfest.net/archive_page.php?comicID=3898
(well, evidently forgotten by her; it goes without saying that Li'l E forgot all about it)

And then to her first encounter with Blue (back when she was IMHO much more fun):

http://www.sinfest.net/archive_page.php?comicID=3899
(I like how Blue takes this bizarre visitation totally in stride; yeah, you see all sorts of stuff when your job requires you to deal with the random public, huh?)

And things went on from there.

Interesting Idea I just came up with...

Is tat trying to say that if your family are not a feminist, your parents don't actually care what you want to do but would rather force you to be a part of the "Patriarchial" norms?

Just seems weird, though we know this does not become the case here, cause she goes back to her overalls, so at least some compromises happened?

So I basically answered my own question, if the latter is true, and she doesn't just have her overalls stashed away for when she's away from home.

The doll seems pretty much to imply 'behave like a girl' to me. If Tat wanted to be more ambiguous, Pebbles mother could have handed her a book, or a puzzle, or something less traditionally gender-weighted.

On the bright side, at least she did have overalls to go out and play in. I'd be more concerned if the only clothes she had were pretty dresses and nothing else.

So if a boy wanted to play with a doll, he'd be "behaving like a girl"?

You can't have it both ways. If playing with a doll is a gender-neutral activity for a boy, it's no less so for a girl.

A parent's motivation for wanting a child to play with a doll, well, that's something else entirely.

I think it's a bit premature to accuse Peb-Mom of anything, that's all I'm saying in this context.

Actually a boy playing with a doll would be "behaving like a girl", because it's heavily discouraged.

I have never seen anyone consider a (baby)doll a gender-neutral toy.

That's because you seem unable to grasp the simplest of social cues Ronald.

Mh... This is a comic I can get behind. Still, I hope there's not a lot of expansion on it.

I mean, Pebbles and Lil'E were kind of the break from gender issues, both in the comic and the forum. It'd be nice to still have that for when you're not in a philosophical mood.
