Sorry about the derailment. I like this one personally. I do wonder if the matrix comes in other flavors... I'd actually be interested if I saw something related to Adultism.

I guess none of the usual culprits feel like starting anything.

Ooh I'm excited about this. I hope it's not a one shot. Hell I hope there's matrixes or however you spell that for every kind of bigotry. I hope we see Gay Guy next and the "Straight Matrix"

That would be interesting, though I feel like it might get confusing/repetitive because a lot of the problems with LGBT+ discrimination have the same roots as misogyny. It's all part of the big ugly package of misogyny, heteronormacy and enforced gender binary that is the Patriarchy.

About the white matrix: it's about reinforcing the privilege of a few, but it also explains why so many people that don't appear to gain from it will defend it so vigorously. They don't care that they're not on top. They just want someone to kick.

There is a sizable percentage of the white population that could be living under a bridge and eating a pigeon cooked on a curtain rod over a tire fire, and they would be just fine with that so long as the black family under the bridge next door doesn't even have a pigeon.

In my experience it usually comes in the flavor of "Well we went and caught our pigeon ourselves (from the conveniently next door park with lots of bird feeders with people who don't call the cops to evict us as a nuisance). Why the hell do they deserve to get a pigeon just HANDED to them?"

Blah blah bootstraps blah.

Maybe it's masochism but not knowing what the less savory aspects of my extended family are up to seems more worrisome then wading through their word vomit.

Why thank you. I have enjoyed seeing you from time to time while lurking on the forums. You just make things better.

And I'm fully aware of the type of battle ground this is... and the people involved.

i think a neat way to show an intersectionality matrix would be if one stream of words flows horizontally and another flows vertically. if there are more than two, maybe diagonally? it could get confusing and block out most of the page, but even that could be an apt metaphor.

I've been reading the forum for a few years but only joined a few months ago and posted maybe three times, total. Since we're self-identifying, I'm a white, relatively cisgendered but queer female. (I crossdress more often than not. How does crossdressing figure into the whole cis <-> queer <-> trans discussion?)
Anyway, back on topic, there's an interesting dichotomy between Tat's old method of identifying issues without taking a stance and his new method that is CLEARLY opinionated.
What I find interesting about it is that when he established the world of Sinfest, religions - particularly Christianity, with appearances by Buddha and... is that it? Am I forgetting something? I must be... - were a major theme, but he played with them without judgement.
And now, in his new extremely opinionated comic, the huge religious theme continues to exist without judgement, almost as a relic of the comic this used to be. To be honest though he seems to have taken the "religion" out of it and used it more as a... foundation for world-building? Anyway it's just weird to have them side by side, hot-button issues that Tat judges and hot-button issues that he doesn't.

Also, let it be said that this isn't Tat's first stab at racism. He's been dealing with it in Fuschia's and Lil E's arcs for years.

Also, I agree though that I'd like gay guy to factor more into this. Queer rights and representation are such a huge issue of our times, I'm kind of surprised that Tat hasn't REALLY discussed it. I thought perhaps that he would rather focus on one issue than juggle many, but now that he's talking about race more straightforwardly I expect it in the future.
That and seeing him makes my little "I'm being represented!" flag flutter with excitement.
And I really like the character. Heh.

Couldn't we had the whole white matrix established in one panel and then have some room left over for some action?
