Nope, they're not. But occasionally Tat has added a bit of depth to this character, and has also shown him to be tongue in cheek about this stuff. I don't think Tat's representations of queer people are the best. They certainly need work. But in context with the rest of Gay Guy's behavior and how Tat handles other issues, he gets an official PASS from me while I wait to see him further elaborate.

Another thing about Gay Guy - he reminds me of some young queer people I know, who are busy expressing themselves loudly because they're learning about themselves, and they are finally at the stage of forging their own identity - rather than the one which has been handed down to them by other people. I did this too. So to me there is something that rings true in Gay Guy's character, even if he isn't the ideal character I'd like to see more of.

Additionally, he's the only visibly queer character that is in this strip. I wish there were more of them. I wish there were more visibly queer characters in most media, and that their stories were all diverse. I wish that there were more characters who are queer and other things, like POC and various body types and disabilities and income levels and nationalities.

However, these things are lacking in so much media (even though things have improved a great deal) that I celebrate when something appears right in at least some aspect, even if it isn't ideal. Even if it has big problems. I pick up that aspect and I hug it. I feed it cookies and butter and whatever else I've got on hand that is a worthy treat, so that one day it will grow up and become a BIG aspect, and will go on to do big, beautiful, not problematic things.

We currently have two queer people in the comic: Gay Guy and Gay Guy's boyfriend. Gay Guy seems to be very flamboyant and honestly even if it's part of a stereotype, if there are gay guys who want to dress like that it's fine. Gay Guy's boyfriend seems to be less flamboyant and that's cool too.

For some reason I read "up, up, and a gay" in Bart Simpsons voice. It seems like a quote I remember from him, but I can't think of what the context could possibly have been.

well. those two are the only two explicitly confirmed queer characters, anyways.

li'l e, seymour, blue and fyoosh have all been heavily implied (if not explicitly stated in the case of blue and fyoosh) to be queer too, but... not really... explicitly confirmed...

True, should've added confirmed.

Everyone is queer until proven otherwise for me! Very Happy
