Does anyone remember Dennis' post about people Like Wolfo showing up here? I'm talking about the one where he compares their appearance and posting on these forums as akin to walking into a strangers and shitting in the middle of their house.

Omg I think Manboobz is the site that did the Saruman-style reading of an MRA Reddit user. I will now try and find that wonderful thing.

Simply stating "no u" wouldn't evoke a response.
I'd be written off entirely as a troll with no logic or reason.

But I assure you, I have both logic and reason.

Why are you still pulling attention to me if I bother you so much?

Because I wasn't talking to you, but thanks for letting your ego show in thinking that you're special.

Troll harder.

Who fucking cares?

You have no value here, just like everyone who feels the need to create an account to snivel about the subject matter of the comic, on that very comic's forum has no value.

Logic and reason dictate you find some better way to spend your time.

It was a few pages back and I can't remember the exact context, but someone said something like "how you can say the patriarchy benefits men when non-cis and non-heterosexual men get shit for that?". It's called intersectionality and they're not getting shit for being men, it's for deviating from the cis straight white masculine man "default" that patriarchy is designed to laud and benefit. Trans* men AND women will have problems for being trans* in a society where everyone is expected to be cis, but trans women face a unique set of problems because of transmisogyny. Most murders of trans* people are of trans women, especially trans women of colour. Oh yeah and trans-masculine/ftm people are even benefitted over trans-feminine/mtf people in queer spaces a lot of the time too.

And I want anyone who seriously thinks "it's just a few bad apples" in the MRA movement to go and read the entirety of the Manboobz archive and if you manage to retain your sanity come back and tell me with a straight face the same thing.

*Raises hand* That was me, and I may not have been getting my point across well.

I suppose I was just incensed by the implication of the poster I was responding to: that any oppression of, say, homosexual men wasn't *actually* patriarchal oppression, but simply the patriarchy 'backfiring'-Since they were men, and could derive benefits from the patriarchy, they couldn't also be oppressed by it: It simply had to be the patriarchy 'backfiring' on them.

That argument just... reaaalllyyyy seems to trivialize some truly horrible things (like, say, Matt Shepard).

Yeah, patriarchal oppression of gay men isn't a "backfire" it's because the "homosexual" part of them doesn't fit the mold. I always thought the "backfire" thing was for cases in which men are usually considered (consciously or not) superior but an individual man isn't.

Right. I can see the backfire argument applying to things like, say, difficulty in getting child custody, since men aren't considered nuturing. Or men in general not being trusted around small children (because, again, not-nurturing). I don't really see that as opression or the like: It's an unfortunate consequence of the patriarchy, and is a sort of 'backfire'.

Lumping that in with, er, say, what non-cisgendered or non-heterosexual males face seems... really wrongheaded, and as I said in my response to the poster in question, dismissive. (I realize, though, that this is my opinion!)

I also picture a frat boy when I read "dudebro". A young, white, male, wealthy, Christian, hetero-, cis frat boy. He enjoys every privilege. He scoffs at descriptions of oppression because he has never felt the sting of social inequality.

(Except for junior year when his dad wouldn't buy him a new set of wheels until he brought his gpa back up to 3.0. That was totally unjust.)

I'd suggest using backfire when it comes to: allowing men to have feelings other than anger, happiness and sexual feelings, allowing men to be pretty, allowing men to be nursery school teachers and nurses, allowing men to not be up for sex 100% of the time and also treating men as idiots (see: Grown Ups, Cleaning adverts where the man doesn't know how to clean toilet and woman has to step in)

Elsewhere in this forum I've gone on about how the term 'dudebro' is the new 'frat boy' only more accurate and encompassing since it can be applied to those who have yet to or never have entered college or a fraternity.
