holy crap.

that's fucked up....i think there's only one arranged marriage in my family (that i know of) and while it's really not a successful one, at least no one's -dead- from it.

that's really, really freaky. =(

Arranged marriages are why men used to ALWAYS* have a mistress.

*ALWAYS as in most of the time.

I hit my personal "three strikes" rule. If I ever utter the words "until death do us part" again, one of us had better be on our deathbed.

There have been three "arranged" marriages at my work in the last year (although the polite way to talk about them now, is as "introduced"). In one case, they were introduced years ago, and said no, but met again years later and hit it off. In one case, they were introduced and married a month later, and in the third case, the guy is an absolute cunt, and keep saying things like "Well, I've bought her a fucking house, she'd better be happy".

Actually, there was a 4th one, where the woman went off to Pakistan for a month to choose from a selection of husbands her mum had lined up for her. Came back with a non-committal "not suitable" to all of them!

My friend's mom tells her that if she's not married or on the path to getting married by the time she's 23 (she's 21 right now) then she will arrange a marriage. Neha actually likes the idea. She trusts her parents and knows that at the very least they'd pick a good guy who would treat her well (and, knowing her mom, he'd be really attractive as an added bonus).

NO!!! You could look like this! (well with enough second hand smoke)

Actually, the site also shows the aging effects of other factors too, namely obesity and sun exposure.

You're kind of creepy aren't you?

I like the idea of marriage, relationships can go on for years in a kind of non-commital "this probably isn't it for me" way. Marriage is a nice way to make it clear that you want to be with someone forever.

I'm going to get married, have 2.5 kids, a golden retriever and a white picket fence.

Then I'll turn into a coke addict and divorce my husband for an 80 year old who is about to die.
