Agreeing with delurker.

That was really, really painful to read.

This reminds me of the fools, claiming you can cure HIV - by having sex with a virgin.

The idea that sex purifies a man, while leaving a woman tarnished as "used goods" [and a devil to boot] is the most offensive one I've encountered in a while. If this is what finally turned Baby Blue [and Fuschia] I'm not surprised they have so much devil-burning rage

Wasn't sure where it was going until the end, when the used and cheap signs landed like a brick in the mud.

I'm actually really worried about this. Is human being equated with virginal? Is that how Fuchsia became a devil girl? She said before she wanted to be a normal human girl. But now, if human = virgin, then I hope she stays a devil girl and is proud to be one.

I don't believe so; notice how the "john" goes from devil to human after the encounter.
It seems to me, SA_Penguin hit the nail between the eyes: This is about how society demonizes sexual desire but is content to let men be cleansed of that "sin" by transferring it to women.

I very doubt it's human=virgin. When I read it, I assumed that the devil-ness meant she felt corrupted and like she belonged to them (as opposed to before, when I assumed she felt like she had some personal agency). So I didn't read it as representing virginity, but instead as representing being controlled by DevilCorp.

Interesting synchronicity for me, Iīm visiting Amsterdam, the Netherlands for three days & yesterday went to Chinatown, there was actually a local just like this that I walked past, I didnīt visit the red light area but I believe that there are whole streets like this, anyway now off to the airport & home.

Wow. This strip is really rather powerful and rather nails the point.

This strip, Martini, suggests that Fyoosh and Blue took the Vengeance road to devildom. Or at least started out that way.

Oh woah I never noticed that part of that strip before!

That's certainly much darker than Sinfest has been in a while. For all that I enjoy world-building, the expression on the woman's face in the third-to-last panel just kills.

A strange newbie appears!

Oh my. What a strip. To enter the "human=virgin" discussion, this strip is tackling an idea that is already too prevalent in many corners of the world that a woman's value in society depends entirely on her continued virginity. This is why I disagree with the idea of losing virginity. What does one lose when one "loses their virginity?" Nothing I can see, and I feel one gains experience in a major part of the human condition. I guess one could say that in the eyes of those who see a woman who has "lost her virginity" as being valueless she becomes less than human (although, since her value was already only based on maintaining her virginity, and thus her supposed purity, then she is probably already viewed as less than human even with her "virginity" intact).

I also see a takedown of how the sex trade cheapens and degrades the lives of women caught in its web. This is probably the "belonging to DevilCorp" that you noticed, Moor. Often the deeper a woman is pulled into sex work, the harder it is to escape that life and the harder it is for her to maintain a non-sex-work job after leaving that world. Female (and gay male) porn stars can have a difficult time as employers can easily fire them for their past work (especially if their current job involves children in any way, like teaching). It's a strange society we live in where violence is glorified and shown to children all the time (even if there are complaints against it, it is still far more commonly shown to kids than sex and nudity), but exposure to any nudity, sex, or someone who has had sex outside of the hegemonic heterosexual construct is seen as inherently corrupting to kids.

Okay, time for me to stop before I dive into all of my Social Construction of Sexuality class on one strip.

Yeah, it took me a while to notice that too - long after I first saw the strip. It's very subtle but incredibly powerful.

I think her being turned into a devil & labeled cheap has something to do with the double standard of the sexes. The one where men are real men once have sex & are studs if have many & where women are called sluts & are considered trash/cheap if merely have sex. Like women aren't supposed to enjoy sex or want it...total BS. I have never liked that double standard & I feel sorry for the devil girl. Too bad they can't just do a bunch of variant clones of Crimy. Have somewhat diff personalities but all have his innate goodness that way they good have a good man (or do female clones so the gay devil girls have a good woman.)

All in all this strip made me just want to comfort her. & possibly beat the guy's ass for just using her.
