I'm getting a little tired of this unnuanced (is that a word?) view of sex work tbh. I know it makes sense in the context of the oppression of the devils in the strip, but I know quite a few sex workers who most definitely do not feel as if they are being oppressed, who chose their line of work and quite enjoy it.

...yes, somehow an asexual knows sex workers.

(Facebook feminist groups)

Makes sense to me. After all, who is least likely to judge them?

Write a GUI interface in Visual Basic.

(Or hack the computer the records are serving as input to, which is what's controlling the speakers.)

Probably other sex workers? Asexuals aren't really all that more likely than most other groups to be sex worker positive. As I said, the reason I know a few is because I'm a part of a few feminist-themed facebook groups. I just thought it was funny because without that knowledge, it's kind of like how or why would I know such people?

(I had to explain the joke and it's not funny anymore >_>)

I'm all for sex workers who choose to do this job and who like it. Yay consent! But from what I've seen in reports, most of them have been forced. Sad Apparantly a lot of our sex workers come from East-Europe. Makes me wish that the people who visit would be a bit more alert to this all.

Yeah, this is pretty much where I am on the issue. Protection & safe spaces for those who choose to do it, but paths out of it, better choices, and recognition that a whole lot of those involved aren't there by choice.

Also, this strip reminds me somewhat of this youtube video. That's one uncomfortable silence at the end when they show the message about trafficking.

To the strip, ah, the male gaze forced suddenly back on itself...

I know of people who do it and aren't forced, so I think there has to be a way to talk about sex work without automatically only talking about those who are forced into it - and I think the phrase 'forced into it' only calls to mind people who have been enslaved, and not those who went into sex work because of a lack of opportunity elsewhere. It makes people out to be super passive.

I think working on these things would be great: eradicating the stigma sex workers face; help and safe places for those who actually do sex work against their will; ensuring sex workers get to tell their own story and everybody else listens.

but to me this strip is not about the strippers - it's (as Rune says) about the men ogling the strippers being forced to think about why _they_ are there. no comment on why the strippers are there, or what they think about being there. it's more "guys - this is how _you_ look".
