It's hard to have some kind of emotional attachment to a character when it can be rebuilt at will.
On the other hand, there already is a rogue fembot, and she witnessed this. It might lead to some personality development for *her*.

And look how MMXIII also look down on the city. There's some feel here too.

okay but the underlaying theme of all of this is 'robots being freed are being used as an analogy for women breaking out of harmful societal programing' and all this talk of 'building a new one' is completely undermining the fact that they are being treated as people in the narrative and it is actually really really creepy if you're running on the assumption that the bots are people.

like. i don't know how to say it in a more simple way. if you think replacing weapon f with a new bot is 'just as good' or even acceptable than the entire narrative of these story arcs appears to have flown so far over your head it's crash landed on venus.

in other news: damnit Tat's style is hard to imitate. also i hope he doesn't mind fanart like this cuz I'll feel like a total ass if he disapproves.

i doubt tat would really mind it. i mean, why should he? if anything it'd be flattering, wouldn't it? it's basically saying this character means a lot to you, and have an emotional attachment to her. if anything, i think this is what most authors strive for.

when this strip first went up i was going to write a little au comic (or a fic) based on what instancow wanted - in that milton hesitates in pressing the self destruct button and lets her be free. but at some point i realized that's a lot of work. and i decided not to. i still might do it later, but idk right now. i did sort of draw some robot shipping in my notebook, though.

That depends on what the we mean by 'just as good'. I don't think anyone of those who mentioned that we might see a rebuilded fight-bot wanted to say that that would erase this one's death and nothing bad would have happened. Even if the rebuilded (or brand new) fight-bot were to enter the reality zone, it'd become free, but she'll get new memories, she'll be a new person, not the old fightbot. It can't be 'just as good' as if the old fight-bot was still alive.

The rebuild idea goes for Milton's puprose. He still wants to destory the fembot. Most probably he's going to use machinery to deal with her, rather than go himself. So, we expect a new fight-bot for the purpose, and since Tat likes to throw references from fiction a "we can rebuild her better, stronger, etc" is theoritically possible.

You are right, the narrative treats her as a person and we the audience (and some characters) are aware of that. The same doesn't go for all characters in the story. To those -like Milton- who she was just a machine , rebuilding her is "just as good" as her.

Side note: On second thought, I seriously doubt Milton would rebuild her, even if parts were left. He'd start from scratch, he probably considers her current parts "cursed". Or he might go for a male-fight bot this time, since he got "kill all men" fear.

Am I the only one who sees the possibility of spy-drones and/or devil people collecting her parts, bring her to Milton's lab for him to have a "we can build her better than she was. Faster, stronger, etc...and maybe with a auto-self-destruct-if-she-enters-reality-zone" moment?

I don't see her being put back together... but I could see him just activating another one... maybe with some tweakes... I'm sure there wasn't just one of her. I'm sure the dominatrix bots are some sort of special order.

Oh boy.

I liked Milton before, and I still like him now. As someone who dreams of getting my own fembot, specifically to fulfill fantasies I wouldn't expose real people to, I'm sympathetic to thinking of fembots as things. And anyhow, I sympathize with Milton. He's never been in a Reality Zone.

Besides, from a story-view, it would be strange having a sentient weapon-bot. She has the same perspective as the primary pinkbot.

Wait but real humans don't have self destruct mechanisms planted in their arms/the ability to explode.

And we know that Squig turned into a *real pig* when he entered and-

... I really need to stop trying to think about this logically, don't I.

And your wildest dreams are currently becoming reality somewhere in Japan most likely... granted they lack the capability for sentience at the moment.

I would enjoy getting further along in the throwdown between patriarchy and everyone else, but I don't think Milton doing a 'better, faster, stronger' thing advances that. Just having people from one side or the other hunt eachother down sounds boring as fuck to me.

Fembots in Sinfest aren't 'just things.' Milton is creepy for treating them that way when they aren't, and he probably treats the actual women he knows in a similar or identical fashion, because that's how devil women are treated in Sinfestland. A pretty poor hero for the cause of robot fucking here in the real world, where AI has not yet become sentient.

If the two robots had been free from programming and both survived, there is no reason they couldn't have grown as individual separate characters. Writers have written sentient robots who are still individuals and have their own personalities. For example, Bender from Futurama and Data from Star Trek. Tat could possibly review other examples of two robots who appear in the same story to see how other storytellers have accomplished this.

It seems to me some complaints about how Fuschia and Pebbles are dealing with things are similar to complaints about Rogue and Weapon F. Is that just me being tired or does anyone else get that impression?

I am way too hangover-y so for my argument I would like to direct people to Ghost in the Machine and Artificial Intelligence. :3

what happened to the mask in the last panels?

I saw the mask as a metaphor. While she wore it, she had one view of the world: destroy rogue fembot.
When they fell into the reality zone, she became self-aware as symbolised by the torn, partially removed mask.
Finally, her eyes were opened fully, and the mask was totally gone.

As for bringing her back - the girls with the tech power seem rather anti-fembot. They destroy a lot of "flying eyes": if even one of them was rebuilt as a tool for the Sisterhood it could start a story arc, with Mech Warrior [Roxanne?] returning as a sisterhood member.

Original fem-girl could even help in the process.
