Libertarianism like many other 'isms', are a nice idea in theory but are more or less doomed to fail due to a pesky thing called human-nature.

You'll notice that most libertarians are middle- to upper- class white people (especially men) who have little to nothing to worry about with regards to being systemically discrimated against.

People tend to support the groups that will benefit themselves and the things they believe in, its just the way we humans are, after all if for example, you were a person living on welfare, you wouldn't support a party that wants to cut how much welfare you got when the other party promises that they won't cut your welfare would you now?

I think they underestimate how much exactly the government pays for them.

Yeah, Libertarians tend to mean "stop any new regulation that might affect the status quo, which benefits ME".

i've spent way too much time and effort in my life absolutely just crushingly mocking libertarianism and calling it a bafflingly useless experiment in ideological myopia and a critical failure to understand human nature, but still it's kind of sad to see sinfest going fully down the overtly politicized route hooray

Libertarianism =/= "There'd be no government at all." That's actually anarchy.

and now for some reason I really want an opportunity to don a Darth Vader mask and proclaim, "The Ayn Rand is strong with this one."

I find it strange that Violet chooses to interpret the complete lack of government as a libertarianism rather than anarchy. Especially since a) you can hear from time to time some libertarians say that there should be some governemnt, although not with many juristictions and b) squig isn't exactly the common upper middle class libertarian archetype.

Oh well....

And the original meaning of the word continues to be slandered.

Meh.

Edit: actually, it's not really slander. It's just reducing the entire political spectrum that can fall under 'libertarian' to the anarcho-*s. That's not particularly fair, really.

Violet or Lil' Sis or whatever you want to call her has always been the one individual in the Sisterhood who has been shown to jump to generalized and more extreme statements about things. That's her character, so really, what's so strange about it happening again?
