And i thought we were making progress...

It is, however, true, that Monique thinks of morality almost exclusively in impersonal, quantitative terms. Her style and attire are always designed with reference to the "mass" individual regardless of whether she's the "it girl" or a "feminist." She actually has almost no identifying factors that are separate from her image. Part of this is because she's in a comic, and part of this is because she's Monique.

Yeeah, I was kinda hoping he'd toss those glasses off after a while, but it looks like they'll be sticking around for a bit.

And I can't lie: this might not be the progress toward being a good person I'd like for him, but at least it's development of a sort. I'm betting he'll make a damn frustrating villain for the next six months or more, and I mean that in a good way. Good for the story, anyway. I mean, he's got the stage for the battle against himself already set up and everything.

While there are bound to be problems regarding his motivation for future nice actions, I'm not sure that it would really be the birth of a "nice guy." Mainly just because the glitter points can be given out for actions that Monique is completely unaware of and have nothing to do with her. The ones he has now are for helping Squig out after all.

Disagree. There's no reason whatsoever to think the glasses depict a universal cost. If, for example, Squig were to put those glasses on (a good side-plot idea, btw) just how high would all those prices go up before anyone in the comic would consider dating/sleeping with a PIG. How good do you have to be to convince Monique to try bestiality?

And that's ALL assuming the glasses are making an accurate read of these costs in the first place and aren't, for example, affected by or invented by the wearer's mindset.

For every rung I climb, I fall down two.
Just how deep does the rabbit hole go?
I am unsure I want to know.
They say that it is bottomless.
I hope what they say isn't true.

And further assuming that there ARE, in fact, costs at all.

Well there is going to be a cost... effort put forth towards that person is a cost. And considering Slick and Monique's non existent relationship, he's going to need a hell of a lot of effort to seem to even be noticed in a positive light by her.

Just because you assign a value to something doesn't mean you can buy it. I think that's how this is going to play out. Slick's gonna learn what "priceless" truly means.

man i really hope eventually, once tat's accomplished all the shit he wants to with this newly developing plot bs, that this all ends in 1) slick and nique being friends again but also 2) slick finally realizating that friendship isnt some sort of dinky consolation prize, friendship is just as valuable as romance/sex, and actually moves on from nique, and accepts the fact that she doesnt wish to be in a relationship with him beyond purely platonic friendship

its a lot to hope for and to be quite honest im not actually putting my faith in any of those things happening, at least any time soon, given tat's track record, but man, i love slick, and i loved the friendship he used to share with nique, but ive always really hated his constant attempts at convincing her to be in a relationship of non-platonic status when that just isnt what she wants

and i just really want this to go somewhere that wont make me uncomfortable and/or unhappy

Well, I sure hope Sleaze goes to claim his glasses now. They do bring the worst out of Slick.

tbh right now im feeling totally ok with the thought of someone either just grabbing them off his face and smashing them on the ground, OOOOR, punching him in the face and breaking the glasses. but i definitely want to see those glasses DESTROYED. REST IN FUCKING PIECES, LIL HAL, YOU COLD ASS SON OF A GUN
