heh, stumbled on this. Laughing

Yinello, i remember a bit of the kerfuffle that comic csused because it made me start reading Sinfest again. I rather liked it on levels beyond the 'bad luck chuck!' aspect, and was pleasantly surprised to see what tat had started producing!

This is why I love Squig. He can be a glutton and a jackass but there are several points where he has just flat out been a fucking hero.

I love the "I'm scared but that won't stop me" as he barrels into the scene.

Did anyone actually read that book?? Everything I heard about it sounded terrible, so I enjoyed this comic. I also like the unfunny point it makes.

I was searching the old strips and upon happening upon this strip I had to stop and ask "has Tange grown about a foot since she met Lil'E?"

Maybe it's just because it's late but it's making me laugh so much, considering the height difference and the fact that I'd say it's only been weeks, maybe months since this happened in-universe.

Also, I found out Tat tags Lil'E as "Lily" in all recent strips. This pleases me.

No, Li'l E has always been shorter than Tange. Just as Slick is shorter than Monique and Crim is shorter than Fuchsia. I don't know what the deal is there.

That business with Monique's foot seemed like an unnecessarily elaborate way to give Xanthe an excuse to talk to her, thus setting the whole Patriarchy thing into motion:

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-09-18

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-10-03

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-10-07

Because she had bare feet she got a cut, because she got a cut she tore off part of her shirt as a bandage, because she cut tore off part of her shirt as a bandage Xanthe criticized her outfit and mentioned the Sisterhood in the process and because of that Monique looked up information on the Sisterhood despite being the one who originally told us readers about the Sisterhood in the first place.

Seymour has no idea what she's talking about there and he's terrified, anyway.

You do know that equating 'Nique's made-up-on-the-spot-to-terrify-Seymour "Secret Sisterhood of Spooky Shit" with the Sisterhood involving Xanthe, Clio, Tess et al, is no different to identifying the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency with the CIA because they're both called "Agency", right?

Uh, I know. She's taller in that strip. But the top of his head looks to be about halfway up her head as opposed to recent strips wherrre:

He only just comes up to her chin.

But the Sisterhood that targeted Seymour is the Sisterhood involving Xanthe and company.

Death kills Father Time (or whatever name we use for him/them) every December. Like clockwork. That seems to indicate that Tat intends strip time to equal real-time. That makes neither less nor more sense than any number of other things about Sinfest. Bart Simpson has been age ten for twenty-seven years. So what?

The real oddity is that Li'l E/Lily ever had a Devil Card. Technically, he's not a Devil, he's a Halfling.

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-07-13

Plus, he hasn't done anything "devilish" since he lost his memory, anyway. Then again, I doubt that the "revoked my card" strips are meant to stand up to scrutiny, either.

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2009-02-15

And are all of those Devil People in the last panel currently doing "devilish" things to keep their Devil Card status in good standing? Doesn't make much sense to me, anyway. Shrug.

(Well, I waited over a half-hour so I wouldn't be posting immediately after my previous post, so there's that, anyway.)

To further examine the whole cause-and-effect thing (that I brought up before re Monique's bare feet), consider the first and AFAIK only encounter between Jesus and Tangerine:

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-08-26

Jesus used to be in the habit of zapping Fuchsia and Blue into mortal/nice form with little or no provocation; they're more or less just minding their own business and, out of nowhere, full-force physical and mental violation. Yet Jesus barely even notices Tange...the one extant Devil Girl that we know was transformed against her will (or at least by surprise). Maybe that's because Jesus knows that Tange has things to do that she can't do as a mortal.

Tange had already "dug" the hole where Jesus planted the seed that Buddha watered to grow into the tree (which is thus, in a way, a "hybrid" of Devilness, Christianity, and Buddhism) where Monique cut her foot (see above) and from which Tange dropped down to meet Li'l E only minutes after he lost his memory (thus pre-empting the possibility that anyone who already knew Li'l E would come along and just tell him who he was (well, Blue almost did that, but The Devil called her off of it; see below). Tange then proceeded to take Li'l E up into the tree so they could drop down on Francis who happens to have Li'l E's discarded backpack which sparked what might be Tange's keenest bit of insight to date.

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-10-23

And what was The Devil doing at almost the very minute that Jesus was planting that seed?

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-08-27

Talking to ponies. Apocalypse-harbingering ponies who made it clear that he wasn't the boss of them.

Right after that, we next see The Devil outside the gates of Paradise.

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-09-08

What, one might ponder, might he have been doing there? Sure, he could've just been hanging around, walking to and fro upon the earth the way he does, or he could've been scoping out the area to be sure that the following scenario played out exactly as anticipated.

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-09-11

And what does The Devil do next?

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-09-25
(As a side-note, Blue's irritation over this incident and the resultant anxiety that she passed on to Fuchsia is, arguably, what ultimately prompted Fuchsia to finally leave Stately Devil Manor.)

He next next makes a rather odd move:

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-10-01

Why would he need to do a background check? He's the one who "created" her in the first place. Not sure what that's about.

And, then, of course...

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2011-10-16

Obviously, we can only speculate on what's going through The Devil's mind at this point, but one way to read the scene is as the sort of poignant moment when a character, having taken or set into motion actions with serious repercussions, pauses and thinks to himself, "What have I done?"

Isn't that devil bar also a strip club that humans can patronize? If Li'l E is a separate type of being instead of just a devil child, then I wonder if they have different rights in this place, and if there are more of them. If that is the case, I wonder if there are any others, or if having half-mortal children is heavily policed here.

Yes. Legion even once told Zombie Boy, whom he thought was pestering Sapphire, to come back during business hours, clearly implying that Zombies might be allowed inside.

If we'd never found out that Li'l E is, in fact, half-Devil and half-whatever Lilith or whoever she is happens to be, I'd have presumed "Halfling" was simply slang for underage. But we did find that out, so...

As seen in Blue's interrupted audit, Li'l E, back when he was Even Li'l'er E, was subjected to teasing for being a Devil Kid. In fact, as seen in the strip below, Devil People are actually subject to (one can only presume) legally enforced discrimination in Sinfest City. Precisely how one can effectively discriminate against people who can set you on fire if you tick them off may or may not bear further consideration.

Anywhere that two (or more) distinct races co-exist, there will be mixed-race children. Anywhere. Always. Because wherever there are people, there is sex.

It's a good thing I love Tat's drawings and characters so much that I'm willing to ignore the fact that basic canon often drifts so far off that it ends up in contradiction to earlier strips.

Well, that's what they attempted to do in Legend of Korra. The execution of it was kind of a clusterfuck though.

I have to agree with Stripey, if I didn't know otherwise I'd say "halfling" meant "underage". Although maybe the bouncer is being a dick and instead of just saying "you're underage" uses his half-devil status as the reason just to upset him.

I'm kind of laughing at his terrible rage fiction now.

That reminds me, when I was walking into the casino with my mum today (for food, not gambling) naturally I had to show ID. The bouncer (well, not really, security guy? it wasn't a nightclub...) said something like "hey there fella" to me and I was like "YESSS. Wait. Shit this is going to be awkward" because my ID has my legal name and an "F" on it. He was like "is this you?" and I was just like "yes... that's me. I'm, uh, transgender". I have no idea if he knew what that meant or he even heard me but he was just like "that's okay, I just need to check that you're over 18, I wish I looked like that at your age" which was a bit... confusing and weird. The embarrassing part was I was about to go in and he stopped me and said he was just calling up the other employees to let them know that I was in fact over 18 otherwise I would be constantly asked for ID. Finally I got to go in, after awkwardly listening to him informing the other people over his headset about what I looked like and not to jump me. The worst part was, we didn't even end up eating in there, so I could have avoided all that if mum had listened to my suggestion in the first place. At least the security guy didn't look at my ID and start calling me "miss", which would have been the actual worst thing that could happen. I have no idea if it was because he was down on the trans stuff or just didn't bother to check anything but photo and date of birth.

Someday I'll look over 12. Someday.

In the meantime, I've ordered pointy ears because I plan to cosplay Lil'E. Thank Tat for a character I love and am suitably sized to emulate.
