How creepy is it that Deviltech programs their robots to be capable of feeling pain in the first place?

Ouch, indeed. It makes one's heart hurt to think of it.

...I'm still on the they're robots thing (before they enter the reality zone to gain sentience) so that doesn't bother me, but it's weird that they built a pain threshold at all... why give them the ability to feel pain?

Oh, true, having gotten to know PX I sometimes forget that they aren't all manufactured with the sentience she achieved in the Reality Zone. Nevertheless... knowing that they are made feel pain at all, and as such are made to be the playthings of sadists... how vile.

The devil/Devilcorp made them, so it would make sense that they'd do something that could be seen as unnecessarily cruel. Plus, it may be a selling point "our fembots feel real pain, not simulated!"

Lil'E's expressions in this strip, aww.

There's a line in Lewis' That Hideous Strength this reminds me of--one of the characters is being made, as a sort of initiation to the evil side, to spit on and do nasty things to a crucifix. He isn't religious, but it still makes him pause:

Quote:
He was on the verge of obeying, and getting the whole silly business over, when the defenselessness of the figure deterred him. the feeling was a very illogical one. Not because its hands were nailed and helpless, but because they were only made of wood and therefore even more helpless, because the thing, for all its realism, was inanimate and could not in any way hit back, he paused. The unretaliating face of a doll–one of Myrtle’s dolls–which he had pulled to pieces in boyhood had affected him in the same way and the memory, even now, was tender to the touch.

Because some guys get off seeing their SOs in pain. And a higher treshhold is just reason for them to keep trying to see where the limit is.

I know, it's gross as hell.

The threshold should be adjustable and it should be simulated pain since the fembots shouldn't be sentient, let alone sapient, in the first place. With any reasonable gynoid design Px should be able to ignore pain altogether, or never really experience it in the first place. The problem isn't really that Milton and Deviltech make robots, it's that they're making them wrong. They have the technology to legaly produce and sell personal robots that even a shmuck like Slick can afford, but they waste it on making waifu-bot sex-slaves. That one shopkeeper-bot is adorable, though. Nothin' wrong about her except that she's a perfectly good retail job lost to a machine, but that might be anti-robot racist. I guess it depends on whether she is sentient or not.

Seriously though, there are more moral and logical design flaws in the construction of the Sinfest gynoids than there were in the Battlestar Galactica skinjob Cylons. It's like they were designed terribly on purpose so that Tats could make some kind of belaboured point about porn or the sex work industry that nobody is really getting. The action is nice, though. I do like Lily's cutenes too.

Also, sadism isn't gross. Sociopathy is gross. A good sadist is not a sociopath and usually makes the acquaintance of one or more masochists for a consentual satisfaction of urges.

Notice that she doesn't actually answer Li'l E's question about whether or not she's "okay." I'm not sure PX is ever "okay."

Maybe later Tange can take PX for a walk on the fun side, much as 'Nique took Abby.

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2014-02-16

Tange's ideas of fun -- shoplifting, pouncing on random passersby from trees, BOMFing animals into devil creatures, running around with a sword in search of potential harbingers of the pockalips, and so on -- are a bit different than 'Nique's, of course.

Having Tange as a roommate must be quite a trip.

I find it very weird that they do feel pain at all, especially if we assume that that's not something unique to PX. Makes no sense, they could just have software that simulates pain-reactions, but actual pain seems like superfluous work.

Ennis' explanation makes sense though, that could be it. Then again, Devilcorp could have just lied that it's actual pain, to the customers and go with simulated one. But oh well. CEO is satan, etc, etc.

On an unrelated note, my avatar is still invisible to all of you, yes?

Yep, your avatar is invivsible. And http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/8009/avatar1ji.jpg gives me a 404 error.

And I'm not surprised at all that fembots were designed to feel pain, given the attitude of Devilcorp to women in general.

I'm glad to see an update on Li'l E's gang of friends. I just hope they get out of the catacombs without running into a barrier or checkpoint blocking the way.

I'm also nervous about Butt-Bot. He's friendly, but surely he's still capable of beaming imagery back to Devil Corp. and giving their whereabouts away.

There's another explanation for why a robot might be programmed to feel pain (Alibiet probably NOT in this case, but-)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4L2dFoUysU&feature=player_detailpage#t=467

I.e., because pain is a very useful feedback mechanism for "DON'T DO THAT, it may break you."

... But in this case, it's probably so"Lol they can hurt them if they want to."
