I'm trying to figure out if the release of the assassin-bots was simply an attempt to cover the breakout of PX and crew or whether that was simply incidental and the assassin-bot release was the sisterhood's actual goal.

If the breakout of the bots was the actual goal the sisterhood seems to have rather botched it. No distractions and no backup and now they're just getting picked apart by what is ostensibly an endless supply of devil-tech droids.

Tell that to the other person present at the explosion: 2013
Or 2012, who died on a stolen tricycle.

Or... forget it, no need to hammer the point home.

In this strip, Blue's words to Fuchsia imply that death is at least a possibility for them.

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2010-08-22

Which is mildly ironic since it's Blue who refers to non-Devils as "mortals," implying that she (and, by implication, Fuchsia and other Devil Girls) are immortal.

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2009-01-11
(the beginning of the end of the beginning, right there, folks)

She might, of course, have meant it in the sense that she and Fuchsia will die if The Devil kills them but will otherwise live forever.

Five assassin bots were framed in the doorway. Three made it through. Two were taken by the caterpillar bots.

Where are all the rest?

At least a dozen were shown in this Sunday strip. This one one shows five released and leaving, this one shows five empty tubes.

Why only five?

Old year dying doesn't count, an identical person will appear always and fulfill the same role. The only one who ''died'' was fightbot, but we all knew it wouldn't last long.

No one dies in sinfest.

no AIs have died

no organic people have died

time itself has passed away in some sense, but for all we know each of its Incarnations have continued to exist. We don't have any other examples of Incarnations "dying", but there is still a strong pattern of not dying to extrapolate from here.

We saw a fembot in the garbage. Its chassis was broken. It probably wasn't dead.

"You're going to get us both killed" is a widely-used idiom. The main point of it is "you're dragging me into this shit too, y'know! Aaaa!"

If the Weaponised Fembot who was sent out to kill Pxsomethingsomething has had "avenge me" as her "final recorded thought", I think that suggests she's dead. If it had been her "last recorded" or "latest recorded" thought, that would be more ambiguous, but "final recorded thought" is a different kettle of fish.

Nice to see a fight where both sides took casualties instead of tatsuya's usual one sided curbstomp.

It's just a very common trope. The one left behind, the one having to be dragged away, etc.

It's very close to "Drawing the short straw"

Fair enough! I don't actually see this specific trope happen a lot myself, so I wasn't sure.

What's interesting is the timing. I happen to be re-reading Huckleberry Finn, and was up to Chapter 32:
Quote:
“It warn't the grounding—that didn't keep us back but a little. We blowed out a cylinder-head.” (Huck)

“Good gracious! anybody hurt?” ( Aunt Sally)

“No'm. Killed a nigger.” ( Huck)

“Well, it's lucky; because sometimes people do get hurt. (Aunt Sally)

Dismissing the death of the years, and the Fembots [a whole factory line of them, remember?] because they aren't "organic" just seems a little too close to Aunt Sally Attitude right now.
