I asked why she'd need to practice such a skill. Now we know.

That's 'Nique's instinctive fighting stance:

http://sinfest.net/view.php?date=2012-01-17
(notice that 'Nique instantly knows what Story Time Zombie is, even though he was and remains the strip's only Zombie; I suppose there's not all that much you can mistake a Zombie for, but still)

'Nique ought to know that cartoon/comic strip dogs don't have balls, though. Male cartoon/comic strip animals who go naked below the waist (or the quadruped equivalent) rarely do.

Yeah Kirby!

I mean Cerby. Same difference.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I love Abby's excitement at seeing 'Nique. Particularly the way she actually has a heart in her speech bubble.

I was wondering how we're meant to interpret that. Admittedly, for whatever reason, women are usually presented as being more open about how much they love their friends, but Tat does, of course, have the other subtext going on.

Slick and Squig are best pals, but if either spoke to the other with a heart in his word balloon, well, I think that would come across as...odd.

Apparently Tat has forgotten that Cerby likes Monique.

Depends on who is drawing the fantasy-porn. I've seen a two-headed dog with two penises and four balls but I can't say I've come across any legit cerberus porn yet. Well there was that one with the three women who merge together and transform into a cerberus monster but the end result was still female, so no balls. I'd also have to go through Arania's backlog to find it, and screw that.

While I'm no expert on fantastical anatomies I can't help but feel like extra testicles would just make walking difficult.

Maybe it's a different Cerby. Or a re-bomfed one.

"Cerby" has not liked 'Nique for a while now.

It seems that he got re-trained in ferocity sometime between this and this.

Yeah, try to kick a four legged animal in the balls from the front especially one with three sets of sharp teeth. If your lucky you'll still have your leg above the knee. But I guess macho posturing is okay when it's a woman doing it.

Someone kicked my dog once for barking at him.

I broke his leg.

The Zen effect always wears off sooner or later.

***

Whether Cerberus likes Monique or not, a three-headed dog is still a dog, and to a dog, when you're an intruder, you're an intruder, and that's all there is to it.

Even if you got along great with a dog on an earlier visit, you'll still get a barking-at next time. After a few dozen visits, a dog may finally decide that you're zero security risk and give you a friendly greeting immediately, but I'm not sure if Monique had ever set foot in Stately Devil Manor at all until the cited Sunday strip.

Also, when you run from a dog who's in protective mode, the dog will chase you, it's just instinct. Maybe if Monique had stood her ground, Cerberus would've reacted differently, but, uh, yeah, who's going to stand their ground against that?

All that said, notice that in Panel 20 of the cited Sunday strip, Cerberus stops chasing Monique once the gate opens and she's leaving. Because she's not an intruder any more, so everything's okay. And on this occasion, he calmed done the moment Abby chastised him and "vouched" for her.

Cerberus doesn't dislike Monique, he dislikes intruders. He must protect his territory, he must protect his household, he must protect his pack. It's not personal.

I wonder what Cerberus thinks of Abby's butterfly drones. Since they can talk, he might not be sure what they qualify as.

I suppose that Cerberus himself might be able to talk to Pooch and Percy, the way that all non-anthropomorphic animals in the strip can talk to each other, but he hasn't so far.
