Wait, what? No, absolutely not!
| So Indie rap is refined, uncontroversional and all those things that indie rock is not? _________________

You patronising cunt!
p.s. "indie kids". Talk about shooting yourself in your own patronising foot. |

I saw Modest Mouse in the indie section of two music stores recently. |
Modest Mouse (& DCfC, and other bands who started on independent labels but later moved to major ones after developing a substantial following) tend to be problematic for those who misapply labels, but it's actually pretty easy. The bands are no longer indie: you can't be indie and be signed with Atlantic or Epic, sorry. But their music is still undeniably indie rock. |
I'M INDIE! I'm not on ANY major label. *strut* _________________ My blog is back bitches!! Check it out and comment: http://www.quixoticroads.com

It's not a matter of whether the qualities are possessed or not; it's a matter of whether those are the standout qualities which define the genre. |

I'm hoping you're kidding, since I was: it's a long standing joke that the only way to be a true indie kid is to not actually enjoy any music.
Also, "indie kid" isn't a dimunitive or pejorative. |

You totally lost me there.
So you're saying that the raw, unproduced sound of Indie-rock is a standout quality, but that isn't the case in other indie-music? _________________

I think, personally, you are lost in some half-arsed definition you've latched only your mind on to, and because you appear to be the most stubborn person ever born to humankind, you're never going to let go of that.
So really, you're a bit silly. I thumb my nose at you, and i'm going to listen to blur, who are indie. |

Wait...
I thought Seattle produced grunge when it came out. Now it produces Indie? So like... that wouldn't have anything to do with the whole morphing process that people are talking about, would it? _________________ My blog is back bitches!! Check it out and comment: http://www.quixoticroads.com

Ok, good.

This sounds like a unique opportunity to do a GROUNDWORK CASE STUDY
Next time I have to extract a friend from the bowels of the college radio building, I'm going to find out how many indie kids are casually genre-tizing "Indie" through association to Tha Scene.
I'm also going to call up my brother and say "Hey -- your band is indie" and see if he punches me when we next meet. |

Instead of continuing to quiz me on this, why not, you know, listen to the music and decide for yourself?

Those should get you started.

No it wouldn't, since it continues to produce grunge, and the two aren't related.
Edit to add: be back later, actual work to do omg |

Me: Your band is indie.
My Brother: Fuck you, we're hardcore.
Me: But you're also indie.
My Brother: Fuck you, we're hardcore.
Me: Well, what about not being on a major record label?
My Brother: Fuck you, that's independant, and we're hardcore. I'm at efrains.
Me: I want takeout.
My Brother: You want chimichangas.
Me: I want salsa verde enchiladas.
My Brother: No you w .. yes, we want salsa verde enchiladas. BEE AHRR BEE
I will grill his band for further clarification when they next arrive. |
