I think Tat is trying to say something. If only I could figure out what!
ps. I like how Seymour has the portrait of God on his wall. And also the colouring of the text in the 'from america with love' panel. _________________ Who needs a signature? |

Noooo you beat me to it... Ah well, I just had to register to comment on yet another great Sunday strip
I love the message of how saving the world means oppressing, taxing, and killing.
Also the don't fuck with Jesus boots. I've seen some pretty interesting signed converse and whatnot, but this takes the cake

Edgiest comic yet.
It's been fairly clear from the beginning that Tatsuya is a christian. Like a prophet of old, he speaks from the wilderness rather than the established tabernacles, which tend to be corrupted by the "leaven of the pharisees," ie hypocrisy.
However, this comic steers from addressing religious hypocrisy to directly attacking the practices of the USA. If we assume that the US is the modern day equivalent of ancient Israel, (I realize not all may agree) then it's fairly clear that God intends to bless and promote that nation, not judge it to complete destruction. (Read the first few chapters of Isaiah.)
Lumping religion hypocrisy and (perceived) national hypocrisy together only serves to villify the United States with no clear evidence, and no clear reason. We may or may not have a corrupted government, but there is nothing that implies that God might be upset with us, just the accusations of extremely violent people and nations. |

Who said anything about taxation, collection plate, anyone?
Does this strip has the heavest church bashing seen to date, or it that just me?

what Halen said
also, this comic is so Bush-bashing, it ain't pretty. seems like religion nowadays is used for the mere purpose of justifying otherwise unjustifyable (if that's a word) actions, and it's only Seymore's RL American idiot equivalents that buy it.

Not all American Idiots will buy the bullshit that gets pushed on to us.
Unjustifyable is a word but you misspelled it, it's spelled unjustifiable.

This comic made me think of a conversation with a very christian friend of mine whos boyfriend was on a mission in a thirdworld country. you know one of the countries where people actually starve to death.

| her wrote: | | hes saving their souls!!! that way when they die they wont have to go to hell. |

| Yeah the belief that somehow the "Church" is involved in saving people is the very essence of humanism and apostacy, and it's one of the most widespread mistakes in organized (christian) religion today. |

I've never heard of a mission group going somewhere and not bringing some sort of material good into the place, but taking that aside: When you go to a third world country where people are dying of hunger and sickness, a person can feed an idividual. A rich person could feed a few individuals, or even a whole village. A church that so chose could feed that village for a few years until the overpopulation that causes third world countries to have such shitty conditions caught up and everyone was starving again. But when all that fails, your female friend and her boyfriend are correct: the gospel is the most important thing you can give someone. They are not in hell, not even close. Their suffering will inrcease beyond imagination if they do not choose to cast their cares upon Christ. That of course is not the reason for salvation, the gospel isn't about where you go when you die but rather what you do while you're alive, but still. Dont knock what you don't understand, and you can't truly understand the christian faith unless you have it. I know I didn't. _________________ Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. -- Frederick Douglass |
