I was invited to give a talk at a conference at Monte Verità in Switzerland. It looks like a beautiful place, and it is a mild honor. But I feel torn about going. It would be a full 24 hour travel time each way. I couldn't really spend extra time over there to tour, since I don't want to be more than a week away from my family. I love going to meetings where I know people, but I hate meetings in general. I feel stupid for not immediately accepting, but I am just hesitating.

No really. It is an honor and possibly a good convention. How much would you learn by going? I'm sure your family wants you to be honored, why hesitate?

If you feel bad about leaving your family for a little while, make sure you have a web cam. "Tape" little videos telling them how it's going. You can also spend some quality time with them before and after.

Bottom line: Is it worth it to you? I'd say you might enjoy the adventure and I hear that Switzerland is beautiful.

Besides, we want pictures.
