I don't know how to put this stuff in perspective for non-service industry people (ie, the smartest people ever) but I'll just list some figures:
we've been open for five 'sessions': 'soft open' Thursday evening, Friday evening, Saturday lunch & dinner, & Sunday lunch & dinner. We seat 160.
We've fed over a thousand people in that short time - fresh food, locally sourced. We've taken roughly £15,000 at the pub in what is basically half a week.
Srsly: 1007 covers in five sessions. I've dealt with four complaints. I've been made aware of three other complaints. 1007/7, srsly.
I go to the local communities website: nothing but complaints. (24 relevant posts, tbh. 5 complaints. supplied from three different users).
The mod of the website is also the loudest complainant. I posted a point-by-point response response to his/her complaints, explaining that there are snags but we can only improve from our already aclnowledged excellent service. Posts to the website must be approved by a moderator. (ie, him/her).
Fuck 'em. _________________

No seriously Gary I think it's awesome you're doing so well and feel for you about the people being dicks and all that.
also i tried to like your facebook-post but you deleted it. Probably a smart move but I still wanted to like it! _________________

i've kind of wondered about this, when looking at ratings posts for local places. seems like the only people who post are the ones who have a complaint. don't know whether they are really eager to kill the place, or if they are just desperate to vent.
i will hope that word-of-mouth will overcome the negativity. also that the moderator you responded to will have the decency to post your reply. _________________ aka: neverscared! |

Best of luck with the pub Gary, it sounds like you're doing some pretty good business. As for the website... well, you said it best, Fuck 'em. If they hate it so much, they can start their own damn pub and try to do better, I doubt they ever could.
Funnily enough I just ended up on a rather nasty reverse of the situation involving a business that posted my (private, sent to him only) complaint email on a public forum, with my name attached, and tried to say it was my fault I got shitty service and that I was being a dick. Suffice to say the forum quickly turned against him and spawned a 12 page thread about how fucking awful his business was. _________________ Clinging to the status quo

People who have time to go complain on the internet about a pub are the saddest most entitled people in the world. _________________

My experience is that they have a vested interest elsewhere. Good luck Mr.G but to be honest that complaint rate is way too high. Beat your staff into line more and you should be able to get down to a reasonable amount. ie 1< 10,000. _________________ (_**_) *note to self, insert bottle at other end. |

If it was here I'd say they are trying to get free shit.

If it would make you feel better Gary... we could all go over there and write you some reviews. Where's that thread where I wrote down all the nice things I had to say about Gary? - My dad once said that I "like to please people." I don't know if it is the phrasing or that it was my dad saying it (I have issues with him) but it has irritated the shit out of me for a couple years now.
+ Praise at work for doing a kick ass job.
- And I thought of the above.
+ I am going to try and think of it as people acknowledging my awesomeness instead. And I like it when people acknowledge I am awesome - just one more step to ruling the world. _________________ Before God created Las he pondered on all the aspects a woman might have, he considered which ones would look good super-inflated and which ones to leave alone.

Nope though you did put a finger on exactly what bothered me so much about the phrasing. _________________ Before God created Las he pondered on all the aspects a woman might have, he considered which ones would look good super-inflated and which ones to leave alone.

Hanging out with a person I hope will become a new friend tomorrow.
Already totally put my foot in it with regards to someone we both know (they are apparently friends and I want to avoid her like the plague). I try to avoid trash talking, but I brought it up as a "sometimes i just fail to make friends entirely like this one time." example and now I feel like a heel. Also what the fuck self why would you even say something like that ever.
He mentioned he was gay so I figured I'd mention being ace. The "that's FASCINATING" response was unexpected and a tad unnerving.
None the less, I expect it to be a fun outing.
Meeting new people makes me such an awkward flailing mess sometimes. _________________ Samsally the GrayAce |
