I was pondering why/when I started reading sinfest, and recalled that I followed a link posted by someone, on a MUD that I used to call home.

My thoughts then jumped to MMORPGs, which I avoid like the plague because I fondly recall the simplicity of earlier times... But mostly because I'm too cheap to subscribe to anything.

With the selection of MMOs out there... Does anyone still MUD/MUSH/etc... ?

Shout-out to my old stomping grounds, Castle Arcanum!

It's been years but I used to spend a lot of time in a game called The Eternal City based on ancient Rome. I still create a trial account and go back to see what's changed, every so often.

I used to play MUDII - mudii.co.uk

Mind you, I used to also play everquest, dark age of camelot, anarchy online, asheron's call 2 and so on and so forth.

No more, because I found that I HATE not being the very best, and to be the very best in any form of online game requires the investment of a thing called YOUR WHOLE LIFE. And I've only got one of those to share.

and with yet more spawn to care for (has Oscar pupated yet? It's so charming when they're in that cocoon stage) unless you hire out for childcare you'd never be able to do the right thing of properly devoting your life to gaming.

I level faster and have more epic gear in real life, so I'm done with muds and MMORPGs.

I literally learned how to type by playing MUDs. I tried to get a few of my friends to try them but thy never got past the whole no pictures thing. Ahh, the nerdy days of youth.

I spent a lot of time on Sanity's Edge, a Cyberpunk MUD. It's where I, as a young pup, learnt such time honoured skills as yelling a lot, obnoxiously calling everyone a cunt, and the classic spotting a mark.

So, essentially, we're all saying 'no' then?

Or is this going to turn into the geezer's page of "Back in the day ... " ? Razz

wlll...it started out with text-rpg back in the days on my dad's old atari...without internet, for sure.

the bard's tale was the first to have graphics.

and then...well the graphic thing just hit me...went to diablo 1 as my first online multiplayer game from 95-97, and now i am playing world of warcraft. seems no place for anything like a mud....though it would be al lot of...lets say...fun in respect of the old days ^^

I used to play the discworld mud back in the day. Amazing game. You know, graphics can be rather restrictive. There are some MUDs that are far more technical than most of the mmorpgs in stores.

MUD addiction, good times.

No longer, used to play a mud called Times of Darkness, log in from time to time to see how dead it is.

I used to be a god/admin on Mystic Adventures years ago. Even built a few areas.

MMO's have pretty much killed MUD's. If they aren't dead they are on their final bit of life support. I think Guild Wars is what really put the final nail in the coffin, being free and all.
