Continued From Casual Chat

Post by Russly »

Hello!

So, yes, here we are. I would again mention Sunday's strip was pretty... ominous. What now?

The symbolism going on in the sunday comic isnt that subtle for me. I understand whats going on. I also shouldve expected that was gonna happen but I got surprised in the end.

Yeah the fact of addressing the realities underlying these institutions is somewhat of a theme here. From what I can tell, a lot of the philosophy behind everything here is simply, who has been exploited historically? After all, Sinfest is -Sin-fest-- from animal farming to rioting, no stone goes unturned.

I guess it could also be argued that stealing the technology specifically is a fair counterbalance to planned obsolescence-- the invisible way technology steals from us. Not to mention obviously they were able to lock any stolen phone remotely and even track down thieves.

from what I've seen, what with sunday's and the last couple comic strips, it seems like we're seeing commentary on how every social movement got hijacked by a neoliberal agenda - social media mass misinformation, uncle sam - which purpose is to distort the movements' original purpose and ultimatelly destroy it from the inside, hence maintaining the status quo while claiming to have "changed". which is living in denial, like sam is since he and liberty split up lol. also, I do find pretty ominous that he says that if he can't have liberty no one will right after he got his hat rebranded, on friday's strip... I mean, I can sorta tell where the story is going, but I'm curious to find out how it's gonna unfold...also, a lot of those "colorful" guys that claim to be "fighting oppression" are just the same misogynistic asses from porn church, and their actions are shown to be very individualistic and hardly helpful? Which makes sense if they are just opportunists who wanna keep acting like they always did, but without feeling guilty.

Yeah it feels like a reference to whats going on with current society. I do wonder how Tats will tie this plot thread with MMXX since its been a few months since we've last seen her

Yes the men are doing everything they can to just have Woke Church be Porn Church 2.0, which is the point. There's a good question I saw about whether the women are Johnbie women, themselves brainwashed or coerced, etc-- that perhaps we're clueless as to what they even are, short of still human. Slick might be undoing some of his Zen work by letting himself be brainwashed into thinking/being disgusting without realizing. Someone mentioned Buddha's been out of the picture at the moment, but then again Slick didn't show up much for a while too.

That's a great point about MMXX. Sam and Liberty split, Fuschia is more out in the open, the years are women. It does not go unnoticed that progress -has- been made in the comic. Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised to see the next major battle have multiple giant robots.

I don't know what'll happen to MMXX, but I'm betting it must reflect our reality, so... we'll see. I don't think the actual women in prostitution - not the fembots -, and some appear to be handmaidens as well, are johnbies. First, because they aren't johns, lol. Second, because women in prostitution often dissassociate, so that might be the reasons why they are shown as "zombiefied" in the comic. Idk. Tbh, I still don't get why that specific handmaiden has "resting zombie face", which I'm not sure but I think someone pointed out here before... I think I already talked about it, but I'm not sure anymore.

Well that's just it, right? They wouldn't be 'zombified', they would be 'johnbified', and who knows what that means? -If- I'm correct, there's a couple strips which refer to it being that her makeup washed off.

Fitting that it's 9/11 huh? The giant robot (drunkenly?) singing about 'Murica. For reference I'm Squig at the end of today's panel.

Wow that MMXX prediction came true too! I continue to be Squig at the end of the strip. (Oh the hilarity that he says "oh -man-"!)
